West Ham director of football Tim Steidten could be set to leave the London Stadium this summer.

Steidten has come under pressure in recent weeks following the signings of Niclas Füllkrug and Luis Guilherme, though neither is believed to be the deciding factor.

It remains unclear whether Steidten’s reported departure is of his own choosing or a club decision, but it’s fair to say that all is not rosy in the West Ham garden.

Steidten is understood to have a fractured relationship with head coach Julen Lopetegui and has distanced himself from the Spaniard’s appointment. This follows a falling out with former manager David Moyes last season when Steidten was banned from the dressing room and training ground by the previous Hammers boss.

A recent interview with Jack Sullivan suggested Steidten may have been put in place by co-owner Daniel Křetínský, who is said to have conducted the initial interview process. It’s unclear if this has created a two-tier system behind the scenes, with Steidten answering to Křetínský while Lopetegui reports to David Sullivan.

However, sources from the training ground indicate a level of disharmony behind the scenes, with Steidten becoming increasingly detached from the playing squad.

Amorin 3-1 up vs City with Sporting Lisbon but Sully didn’t think he was the right guy! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😡😡😡

Steidten brought in a number of players and several of them mentioned that the reason to join West Ham was Tim, who “convinced” them. E.g. Alvarez, Kudus, Todibo. Kudus wanted to know what his role would be given the presence of Paqueta. Foreign players (and managers) who join the PL most likely are interested in joining one of the “big” teams, and it must take could very convincing reasons for them to join West Ham instead. The one unclear case is Guilherme. When will he deemed to be good enough to play? And I agree, after all the time he spent in Brazil, it is a shame Tim was not backed to get Bruno (even if an additional sum was required).

Tim had to work hard and fast. It’s common knowledge that Moyes left us with a small and ageing squad and let’s not forget a defence that leaked like a sieve and had poor result after poor result. We needed to move on from that cr*p that Moyes dished up regardless of those supporters with the rose tinted specs say and Steidten showed ambition and got signings over the line, yes there are a couple of questionable ones but let’s not forget those players purchased in Moyes tenure. I was never a Jlo fan but we have him and I don’t think Sullivan is going to have a change of tack,he has shown in the past his loyalty to his manager and combine this with his closeness to the £ I don’t see anyone new coming in. Ideally we need to change a few things but Tim isn’t one of them.

All the reports at the time indicated that the Brazilian CB turned us down more than once. Don’t think this one can be pinned on Sully……unlike the ‘gifts’ of strikers he is prone to give.
All the mood music leading up to the end of last season was that transfers were to be 100% handled by Steidten.
All the plaudits as each signing was landed during the summer were given to Steidten and he did absolutely nothing to indicate otherwise.
On more than one occasion when JLo was asked about transfers he said they would have to ask Tim.
Sounds like Tim has a huge input to transfers.
That said, Kilman very much appeared to be a JLo signing and whilst I am happy we got him we definitely overpaid.
Guilhame further diluted our reserves, albeit he may yet come good, and he was definitely a Steidten buy.
Duhan is often quoted as a missed opportunity. Maybe. Villa fans I’ve listened to seem to think he is ‘just’ a super sub. Nothing wrong with that but more to the point, if we paid the £15m+ extra for him (IE more than Fullkrug) what player would we have not got……presumably Wan Bissaka?….as we were spent out. We’ve already started eating into next season’s budget with the Tobido loan to buy.
I’m not anti Steidten, but he is not perfect and there should be a proper internal review of his acquisitions as only the Board will know if they are all his picks. If he is behind Alvarez, Rodriguez and Soler then that is a massive negative against him.add to that Mavropanos who is so inconsistent (but I can’t but help liking him as he is an honest, hard working old fashioned centre half) then Tim has as many bad buys as good.

    • Matt says:

I’m not saying Tim has got every signing right, far from it!

Things will improve under a progressive head coach not JLo. Tim needs another 2/3 transfer windows.

If Sully was removed from hiring our next manager and let Tim take control I’d feel much more confident.

Then if it fails we can blame Tim. I just feel Tim couldn’t pick a worse manager than Avram Grant, Pellegrini, Allardyce or JLo!

      • Martin61 says:

Totally agree with removing Sully from manager/player recruitment decisions and that JLo can go. My concern is whether Steidten was or was not chief decision maker in the transfers. If he was, then our slow ineffective midfield is a major concern if he continues. I’m not expecting perfection from Steidten but he needs to be comfortably above average to justify his position………and I truly hope he is as I welcomed his appointment.

        • Matt says:

Tim wanted Amorin as manager and we got JLo! I know who I’d rather have in charge.

Amorin is brilliant tactically, plays exciting football and is great at developing players!

          We got 🇪🇸🤡🤦‍♂️

  • Morty says:

I think the God like status given to Steidten has been the issue. The man has a chequered record on signings in East London, yet the board gave him total control. The result? Moyes wouldn’t sign a new contract on those terms and the season fell away with no January signings and a disinterested manager and squad. The only positive now is that if Julen is sacked we won’t be left with his signings as Steidten brought them in. The trouble is half of them are not fit for purpose.

    • Matt says:

If Tim is the reason Moyes left then I like him even more!

      • Morty says:

Oh he definitely was. Moyes admitted he had a new contract offer, we were 6th in the league with a record Premier league points total at that stage and had just beaten Spurs & Arsenal away plus Man Utd at home. We were also still in Europe at the time. Why else would he turn down his new contract reward?

        • Matt says:

I think the Moyesiah status is misguided! Respect him for winning a trophy 🏆 He needed to go out on a high!

I recall all the media types, same lot that love Moyes saying the same b*ll****…. Be careful what you wish for with Fat Sam!

Couldn’t stand the football we endured under him and it was just as atrocious under Moyes.

    • Matt says:

You’ve got a very selective memory or lack of one!

No January signings 🤦‍♂️ Obviously you have forgotten Kalvin Phillips who came in on a massive loan fee and became our highest earner who Moyes signed.

No wonder the players didn’t play great for Moyes after this!

      Get your facts right!!

      • Morty says:

We had a small aging squad so needed more than one loan signing, who at the time we all felt could be decent once fit. We were wrong. The players stopped playing for Moyes because they knew he was going, pure and simple. Sullivan normally offers new contracts at the season end, but deviated from his normal habit that time. We might have had a decent second half of the season if he had who knows

        • Matt says:

Who wanted the small squad?? We could’ve signed Forfana instead of Phillips and had a strong, dynamic and athletic midfielder.

  • Hammerdale says:

    A shambles of a club

    • Matt says:

Any business or club, the ultimate responsibility lies with the owners!

Sully’s record buying players and appointing managers is why we are a shambles and a banter club!

      • Marios says:

Tim will end up at Arsenal and he’ll take Kodus with him.
We will continue to be put on a promise by a lier.

We will get there guys, not sure when or how or we need to do is stick together as one
        COYI

  • Phil Baker says:

Steidten pursued and wanted Duran , but Sullivan vetoed the move because he thought it to be too expensive ( just like Amorim the Steidten coaching option ) . Steidten then told get any striker for no more than 27 million , hence Fulkrug . Steidten’s super power is schmoozing players and staff to come to a club , however if Sullivan refuses to pay fair value the deal won’t happen . It’s a shame Kretinsky won’t buy out Sullivan because he knows how to be successful and has grown his fortune from 4 billion to 13 billion since he bought into Westham . With Kretinsky as chairman Westham would likely be in Europe most seasons and win stuff .

    • Matt says:

I think most fans agree with this!

    • Dave says:

Doesn’t matter what the owners have or how wealthy they are.
Ffp is done on percentage of turnover.
Out turnover can’t grow because we don’t own our ground to be able to grow revenue like the other clubs are doing.
Newcastle is a prime example, they have the richest owners in the league but can’t spend a penny…

      • Matt says:

Whose great idea was the London Stadium? 😡 We’ve got a ****e stadium, no atmosphere and no chance to increase commercial revenues. We can only hope to buy the stadium and then completely remodel it!

        Spurs unfortunately have vision!

  • Jellied Eel says:

Steidten can only be held responsible for players who are successful. The unsuccessful must be someone else’s fault. His remit was to bring in young hungry players. He certainly did NOT do that in the last transfer period. His ego is as big as some of the players and he has as much loyalty as most of them too. Steidten out.

    • Matt says:

Do you seriously think Rodriguez and Soler were Tim’s signings? 🤔

Both slow and not suited to the Prem and obvs brought in by the Spanish 🤡

Nobody will get every signing 100% otherwise they would be at Real Madrid earning more than Mbappe!

Biggest ego at West Ham is the shortest person at the club who dresses like the leader of Korea!

Tim has charisma which is why he can attract players like Kudus! Not a bad signing and we will make massive a huge profit on!

We have wasted £100’s of millions under Sully ffs! You must be blind to not see this?! Tim out sounds like a deluded Moyes fan to me 🤦‍♂️

  • Matt says:

    Hardly a shock!

Sully & Brady have been using their friendly media and social media outlets to flood us with anti Tim rhetoric for over a month now.

Moyes and JL are both dinosaurs who both were always going to be out of sync with a Director of Football.

Moyes vetoed numerous strikers and players that were young dynamic unproven Prem players.

Kalvin Phillips springs to mind as a classic failure by Moyes. Danny Ings wasn’t on Moyes as he was one of countless not fit for purpose forwards by Sully via his preferred agents.

Tim signing the German is a big mistake, but how far up his list of strikers was he? Sully has to sign off on transfers.

Tim was always going to be scapegoated in the event JL now finds himself in. Appointment JL was on Sully, but Tim will take the blame.

Sean’s Kresinsky article about investing in a new ground for his Czech club seems nicely timed too!

You can fool people some of the time but not all of the time!

We know where the problems lie and it’s not Tim or Kresinsky!

  • John Ayris says:

Steidten had more than his work cut out in the Summer window. We should never have been in the position of needing to bring in so many players all at the same time.

Lopetegui has been effected by that too, neither of them should have been needing to rebuild the squad to that extent.

The squad management for some good time leading up to that was appalling, we got to a point where we had no option but to bring numbers in and that should not happen.

    • Matt says:

Moyes left us with the oldest and smallest squad! Tim virtually had an impossible job this summer which wasn’t helped by appointing the wrong manager for him to work with!

  • mark wiggins says:

I don’t think Steidten is at fault here I do think another striker would have been a better choice but mostly the recruitment was good

  • West Ham Voice says:

I think we know that the kretinsky link has been misinterpreted

Lopetegui and Steidten were interviewed by board members

We all know that Sullivan has veto of all decisions because he is the majority shareholder so Steidten being kretinsky’s man doesn’t equate

Steidten is on a mission to move to a bigger club but question marks over what now seems to be a pretty average transfer window need to be asked and he’s the one responsible

    • Matt says:

I think Tim just wants to work for a forward thinking ambitious club. Maybe he will join Arsenal with Kudus instead of being undermined and under appreciated like he is at West Ham

    • Matt says:

Kresinsky appointing Tim makes perfect sense!

If I had invested the amount he had in West Ham I’d want to protect it, see growth and mitigate losses.

Sully wasted untold money prior to Tim joining. Having a new approach was essential but unfortunately it seems we will regress once again

  • Smiffy says:

Sounds like the left and right hand are not in sinc.
This is about par for the course for the management today, also just heard that Stelling has proposed Frank Lampard for the next manager. He’d be about as popular as a fart in a telephone box.
    What about big Sam !!!

  • Bennyboy baker says:

Steidten needs to be held accountable for signing a striker with a injury record as bad as fullkurg why oh why did he bring him in and now he’s likely to be out until next year but will still be picking up his high wages every week he’s laughing all the way to the bank I thought bringing ings in was a bad decision but fullkurg takes the biscuit what a total waste of money soon as he is fit to play again we should get rid of him before the next injury

    • Al says:

I do agree the fullkrug signing looks like it was a poor one and seems odd choice after going for duran and omorodion.

Got to say though Stiedten is doing the job with 1 arm tied behind his back when Sullivan will have his pick or get a player for the manager.

For example stiedten wanted the Brazilian cb for 10-15m. Floppy was set on kilman and pushed sullivan to go the extra. Not that kilman is a bad player but that extra 30m would have went towards getting a dynamic midfield and covered the extra for duran.
