West Ham’s midfield is one of the major areas of concern after being slow, lethargic, stodgy non-combatant: Whatever term is used to describe the combination of Ward-Prowse, Source, Alvarez, Soler and Rodriguez, they clearly haven’t either produced attacking creativity going forward or defensive cover for the back line.
Whether some of those linked as ‘possible recruits’ will fare any better is open to question. Burnley’s Josh Brownhill most certainly comes into the category of ‘questionable’ in terms of pace and creativity but what cannot be denied is the leadership quality that he’d bring to a West Ham midfield short on someone willing to stand up and rally the troops just now.
Particularly after the Hammers capitulation, newly – promoted Brownhill is certainly a manager’s lieutenant on the pitch and would bolster the sides’ frail defensive capabilities.
Is that enough? londonworld.com suggest that West Ham are preparing an offer for Brownhill who is apparently attracting widespread interest:
“Serie A giants Roma and Lazio are also named as potential suitors with admirers in the Saudi Pro League as well.”
Out of contract at Burnley and considering “contemplating whether to take his career in a new direction’ despite this season’s success at Burnley”, the 29 year – old is a solid performer and lieutenant. Whilst it smacks of low ambition, with West Ham’s desperate season, Potter could well see that as enough to steady the ship.
This is such a sulli special, old, free and most importantly Brownhill doesn’t address any of the problems in midfield, namely we have no pace, no drive and no youth in the midfield. Sullis solution (or potter if he really wants him) is yet another player incapable of doing the things in midfield we desperately need. A midfield of ward Prowse, Brownhill and possibly soucek if he stays is a recipe for relegation
Bowen has come from Championship and is by far our best player…So Championship is not neccessarily the source to be denied or even laughed
Can Westham only afford freebie old donkeys now ? Because of crappy over priced and over paid signings by Moyes , Sullivan , Steidten and Lopetegui combined with dismal results from Lopy and Potter unfortunately the answer is yes . 30 million in the hole for a 17th place finish plus 36 million due fee for Todibo and Lopy pay out 4 million leaves Westham at minus 70 million regards PSR . Westham’s squad will be inferior next season and so with Potter’s dismal soft center tactics be ready for a losing relegation battle . At least with Josh Brown Hill they’ll have a ready made Championship player on the books .
Is 30 our lucky number? So this is money ball….
Anyone decent ain’t coming here, if they have any sense.
They will if enough money is offered .
Wow why the negativity of our club. Can’t blame potter he has taking over somebody else’s team and they messed up big time but West Ham forever coyi ⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️
why get rid of Coufal to replace him with someone nearly as old
If you mean Soucek, I agree.
Not the answer but as a squad option overall maybe if we get 2 other, better central midfielders. As mentioned, we need youth, athleticism, pace, physicality and stamina for relentless pressing and counter pressing.
Why would he want to join us
Were sh #t
Not for us we need power and pace ‘
True. The midfield general was a relegation sufferer this time last year so I can’t see how he’s improved with a season in the Championship and a 30th birthday later this year. He was liked with us last summer and most were relieved that it was one of many false alarms.
