West Ham United are set for a defensive overhaul this summer under new manager Julen Lopetegui, with reports suggesting several potential signings.
Following David Moyes’ departure, Lopetegui’s arrival signals a shift in West Ham’s priorities. Strengthening the defence is now a top concern, as revealed by club insider ExWHUEmployee on The West Ham Way Patreon podcast.
Nayef Aguerd’s future is a major question mark. Lopetegui reportedly wants to clarify the Moroccan defender’s situation. West Ham are open to selling Aguerd if they can recoup most of the transfer fee, with rumours suggesting he might prefer a return to France or the Saudi league.
ExWHUEmployee reports that Max Kilman, Lopetegui’s former captain at Wolverhampton Wanderers, is a top target. The 27-year-old’s transfer is estimated to cost around £45 million, with a significant portion going to Kilman’s former club Maidenhead.
He suggests that the other defenders on West Ham’s radar include:
Jacob Greaves (Hull City)
Taylor Harwood-Bellis (Southampton)
Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea)
Oumar Solet (RB Salzburg)
Loubadhe Abakar Sylla (Strasbourg)
Logan Costa (Toulouse)
Zeno Debast (Anderlecht)
Tim Steidten, West Ham’s Director of Football, might explore the German market for defensive options. However, players like Jonathan Tah and Piero Hincapié (Bayer Leverkusen) might be difficult to acquire due to their club’s Champions League participation.
