With the recent flurry of transfer activity, West Ham United are reportedly on the hunt for further attacking reinforcements. As mentioned earlier by C&H, one name has emerged—Franculino Gluda Djú, the 21-year-old Bissau-Guinean forward currently lighting up the Danish Superliga with FC Midtjylland.

West Ham have actually been monitoring Djú since March, with ExWHUEmployee revealing at the time that he had caught the club’s attention.

But who is he—and could he be the answer to West Ham’s frontline woes?

Dju are ya? West Ham’s next signing?

Born on June 28, 2004, in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, Djú honed his skills at Benfica’s academy, winning the UEFA Youth League in 2021–22 before making the leap to senior football with Midtjylland in 2023.

Since joining the Danish club, he’s been nothing short of electric—82 appearances, 42 goals and 12 assists across all competitions, and a Danish Superliga title in his debut season.

A left-footed centre-forward who can also play wide, Djú is known for his pace, sharp finishing, tireless pressing (ranking in the 99th percentile for interceptions per 90 minutes among Europa League forwards) and tactical flexibility, often featuring in a two-striker system or drifting wide to create space.

Reports suggest West Ham have submitted a €15 million bid, though Midtjylland are holding out for closer to €20 million. Serie A side Como are also in the race, while Everton made enquiries several weeks ago. However, it is West Ham who appear to be pushing hardest to seal the deal before the window closes.

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

Looks like a real talent and a handful and definitely has the pace we have been missing.

Hope we can get this deal done and the Boniface loan if we can do that and the midfielders and John Victor who we really should have signed in the first place.

Seeing as everything seems to have gone quiet will believe nothing until we see it on the official website.

He does sound exceptional. With midfield additions, hopefully Paqueta and Soucek still in place, this could be a turnaround for the coming season. Just speculating of course, but Potts, Earthy, Scarles and I hopefully add Callum Marshall, might be included in the squad and compete with these similarly aged players. Interesting to see if that is the case, or they are out on loan again. Potts and Earthy had big impacts in the Championship.

From what I’ve seen of Dju, he looks like a “must have if not for the 1s, one for the future” Don’t sod about, just go out and get him.

  • Hammerdan says:

Sorry to be so negative, but Pottwr wouldn’t have a clue what to do with him!!!!

    Just like with Guillherme.

Tbh I think it’s all down to our slow midfield, and formation. The amount of pressure out defence is constantly under is because we are always too deep because we have no pace or flare. Hopefully the new signings will help.

Sounds good Matt, as long as he doesn’t have to come back to the halfway line to get the ball ! Potter still worries the hell out of me…..
MUST get a commanding Centre Back, preferably a player who could be skipper to take pressure off Jarrod…..

  • FiskyBoy says:

He sounds brilliant Matt, breath of fresh air. I would take anyone at this point though as the wolves game highlighted just how short we are up front and every position really. Let’s hope DelBoy gets his wallet out.

Is Mad Hermansen guilty of bad goalkeeping or is it c/bks letting him down?
Do whu really need 4 goalkeepers?
Transfers seem to be on track now with Magassa/Fernandes/Dju looking promising.
Schmid also looks like he may be in the reckoning.
With interest in Aguerd maybe alternative could be Charlie Cresswell with home grown status.

    • Julian Woodhouse says:

He’s guilty of being thrown under the bus by Potter. He hadn’t played a competitive match since Apr due to injury and had only had 4 training sessions before the Sunderland game. He is a very good keeper, saw plenty of him last season.
