West Ham has qualified for the Europa League qualifying stage thanks to Manchester United winning the FA Cup 2-1 in extra time.
The Hammers will now enter the European competition in the third qualifying round, with the first leg scheduled for July 28th and the second leg pencilled in for August 4th. The 60,000-seater former Olympic stadium is only due to be handed over by UK Athletics to West Ham on August 1st after the London Anniversary Games is held on the weekend 22nd and 23rd July followed by the Paralympic day on Sunday 24th . It takes seven days to convert the stadium from an athletics mode to football mode.
It means the club may either have to request permission from UEFA to switch the home tie to the second leg after the handover, or play the match at an alternative venue. The Europa League draw is set to be made on July 15th, giving West Ham less than a fortnight to confirm the arrangements. A friendly match with Juventus which is billed as the first game at the new stadium and the opening ceremony has been scheduled for August 7th and is set to sell out.
David Gold tweeted “Congratulations Man Utd. I’m sorry for all my friends at Crystal Palace but West Ham are in the Europa League a great end to our season. dg”
If we hadn’t been cheated out of so many points thru the season it could have been CL,so i’ll take default. So would all those we finished above.
Couldnt care how we got into it Roman.Call it default, call it what you want but we are in it,i couldn’t give a sh*t how we got there. No worse getting there by finishing 7th than through the Fair Play slot available last year 😉
Europe by default.
Is that the final qualification round before the league proper and is that the stage we were eliminated at last year???
Once again the outcome of a critical game is affected by seriously flawed refereeing decisions. He’s supposed to be the best we’ve got? Don’t make me laugh.Having said that he has given us European football next year. COYI X
I would say Mooro not a critical game but a critical Man U game, they never seem to have decisions go against them only for them, look over the last 25 years. I don’t think it was a mistake I can’t think of any referee that would have stopped the match at that point, the player was still just about on his feet, very odd under any circumstances, although good for us I will probably have eternal nightmares with the image of pig faces weird run and dance that was reminiscent of a Fergie / David Pleat when Lindegaard scored. I suppose we got our reward but have to feel sorry for Palace who I thought also should have had a penalty for Rooney’s foul…
I was a Man Utd supporter for a day , now it’s out of my system . Phew .
Battenburg had a Manure shirt on but for once i dont care lol
Felt Palace were a little hard done by with the disallowed goal and genuinely sorry for Pardew , liked him as our manager . But we have the reward our season deserved in the end .
Great news lads & well deserved as far as im concerned.Lol Radai,do you think he is already at London Zoo interviewing new staff.
Deserved outcome for our season. It has made me gag wanting manure to win any game. Bring it on COYI
Watch out Europe The Irons are going to be marching across you haha I wonder if Monkeys Bellend will be expanding Bellend Ticket Traders to cover european matches as well 🙂
