West Ham ratings v AZ Alkmaar

|

Areola: Poor effort for the goal which you would have expected him to turn around a post. Beyond that not a great deal to do. 5

Kehrer: Solid for the most part, looking a better player than earlier in the season.7

Aguerd: Looked right back to his best and made some crucial interventions and tackles 7

Zouma: Made a surprise return and looked as fit as a flea and always as composed as ever 7

Cresswell: Just a mediocre game. Failed to penetrate down the left and didn’t have too much on his hands defensively. 6

Rice: Had little impact on the game by his own high standards and maybe that was the problem with the Irons performance early in the game 6

Soucek: Might have been in much quicker for the shot which led to the goal and in much the same form as we have seen all season but provided an assist which led to the pen 7

Paqueta: Worked very hard in midfield but never quite able to play that killer pass which is his trademark at international level. 6

Benrahma: Man of the match performance and a great penalty equaliser. Always a serious threat and one fierce shot at distance saved in first half . Subbed late in order to get a big reception. 8

Bowen: Never allowed to threaten as he often does in Premier League games as a result of some heavy man marking when on the ball. Received heavy punch in face for the spot kick 6

Antonio: Worked hard all night but  never really trouble a well organised defence before  nudging home a close range winner 6.

Subs

Ings: Came on 20 minutes from the end and was involved in a delightful move which all but led to a Benrahma goal

Fornals: Very late arrival. Didn’t get a touch

    Spot on ratings.
    I notice you didn’t give the referee a rating…?? 🙂

Anyone at the game tonight would have truly seen how awful Soucek was so completely mystified how he got a 7 – hard to figure that one out. He had no impact on the game and Moyes obsession with him is totally wrong. We played with 10 men tonight he was truly awful. I just realised tonight two things his team mates will never pass him the ball if there is any other option and he loses more headers than he wins. As for Moyes we need to move on from this guy quickly. These were a very ordinary team and how he did not take both Cresswell and Soucek off and go and win the tie just shows him up for what he is..

I’ve been at games and purposely just concentrated on Soucek for about ten minutes to see what he does. And my answer is not a lot.He seems to trot around the centre circle like a headless chicken and not getting tight to any players.Cannot tackle or pass
I get so frustrated when Moyes keeps selecting him.
What does he see in the player that most fans can’t?
