But it wold be astonishing were he not to be given a new deal given the progress the club is currently making and following the Conference win and recent victories of Spurs, Manchester United  and Arsenal.

Fans remain split on the style of football the team is playing but there can be no dispute over a top six position, place in the final 16 of the Europa Cup and excellent performances against the big three and 3-0 win over Wolves.

However, despite that, the club refused to give an assurance that a new deal would be on the table, only that they would be holding talks with the manager in January.

Claret and Hugh was told when asking for confirmation: “We will discuss in January, which was always the plan.”

However, in the past discussion have usually been held towards the end of the season and this therefore suggests that minds are made up on his future. The speculation is that Moyes will be offered a new two and a half year deal.
