Despite a convincing last day 3 – 0 win over Leeds United, West Ham have been relegated from the Premier League thanks to Tottenham winning 1-0 just up the road against Everton.
The Hammers goal never looked threatened as Daniel Farke’s side did their best to roll over and let the West Ham grab their three points: But David Moyes’ Everton were unable to make any impression on the game thanks to Everton’s lack lustre attacking and a last minute Kinsky save to deny the Toffees a goal.
Amid uproar ar Tottenham and subdued scenes at London Stadium, the Hammers stood, and watched, an waited thanks to the delay in the Spurs kick off thanks to a faulty headset which held up the second half in north London for five minutes.
Eventually the whistle blew, Spuds celebrated and the Hammers were confirmed down. The highest points total in the last fifteen years – 39 – proved too little to save West Ham’s skin.
Plenty of time for the post mortem this summer: Too little too late for this Hammers’ group of players which stumbled in their previous three losses which at the end, proved too big a mountain to climb.
After such a poor start to the season Nuno tried, and almost pulled it off: This had a feeling of the end of an era after fourteen years in the top flight as many in this this expensively assembled group of players are unlikely to pull on the claret and blue shirt again.
Hi Vince N
Well said
Most of the responsibility here is on Sullivan and it seemed pretty nailed on following the debacle of last Summer’s sell to buy window debacle. One of the worst squads started worse still and with Potter.
Aside from all that though NES brought hope and he had enough time to do the job of keeping us up. His insane selections including full backs on the wrong side and picking or bringing on Kilman cost us badly.
Even despite this he arrived at the team that regularly competes the best and incredibly tinkers with it for the Newcastle game. The team today could well of won that game and all being the same we stay up. Mad.
I’m not seeing past Sullivan.
Thanks Sully and Brady. I’m gonna get in my Tardis now and go back to the Boleyn to have a drink with Peter Storrie and chat about the good old days when we sold all our best talent after a few tasty years and then got relegated. No, hold on – maybe I need to get in that Tardis and meet up with Bill Murray on the set of Groundhog Day. 2 of Westham’s last 3 coaches were former goalkeepers , add in Potter and there.s a lot of bland , generic ,no frills , no creativity football . Sullivan treats Westham like an occasional hobby and is clueless on how to run a modern football club . Westham are likely to completely implode now and drop down through the leagues or be bankrupted out of existence . While Sullivan is there I can’t watch any more .
I am a supporter since 1968 and since the last European cup win three years ago we have been on the slide downwards…..the owners should shoulder the blame but the last lot of so called managers should take a large responsibility also and I include moyes and his last 6 month long sulk…we then appoint cheap out of contract losers who had no idea how to build a squad and produce a winning and entertaining team….nuno did try his best but the previous two where diabolical and an insult to hard working people who have to endure the so called world class stadium which is completely unfit for watching football….i can only hope that the pound shop Sullivan will relinquish control and we can regroup and prepare for a gruelling season in the championship…..hard to hold out any hope that we may hold on to any of the better players but a large amount of them need to leave immediately so we can buy a group of players to get us promoted COYI
Heads up guys. Once an Iron, always an Iron – whichever division we play in. We are in for an honest year now. No corrupt VAR. COYI!
My advice to all Wedt Ham fans is to get on with your lives understanding how much pain this relegation brings. Enjoy your holidays. Enjoy the summer. New season. New challenge and who knows what that will bring. I’m as gutted as everyone. Still COYI
