West Ham have revealed their top priorities for the upcoming transfer window. Speaking exclusively to Claret & Hugh, a top source at the club indicated that the transfers they will pursue with the most urgency are not one, but TWO central defenders.

This will come as little surprise to anyone who has watched the Hammers defend this season. The 71 goals conceded is a Premier League record for West Ham, and we still have to play Manchester City in the final game.

The club is fully aware of the perilous state of its defence. Kurt Zouma appears to be on the verge of breaking down, Angelo Ogbonna is nearing retirement, and as Claret & Hugh disclosed earlier, Nayef Aguerd is still set to leave the club.

This has hastened the urgency among the club hierarchy, who recognise that significant changes are required at the heart of the team. Tim Steidten, Julen Lopetegui, and David Sullivan are all unified in their belief that two central defenders will need to be signed in this summer’s transfer window.

    Only 2 Central Defenders?
IF Zouma is ‘broken’ and Aguerd Leaves, with Ogbonna out of contract and past his prime, that leaves just Mavros and maybe someone from the Academy?

Need to also keep hold of ben johnson

Does anyone know if there’s genuine interest in this Hull lad Greaves? Would love to go for Tah but can’t see him leaving Bayer. My concern is that Lopotegui will insist on Killman even if he is £40m or throw a tantrum. Do we have the budget for that?

On another note surely Szmodics for £20m is a must for us no?

Didnt we buy a centre back from brazil luzio whats happen to him

  • Mark says:

Lopetrgui will be going for kilman which makes sense we already know they are chasing the hull city central defender we also know that in the past lopetrgui has tried to buy aguard but west ham beat him to it so watch this space

Earlier this year Perr Schurrs was mentioned. Fee approx same as Aguerd. £30m.
More recently Jonathan Tar. Speculated that Tim was looking to recruit.
Max Killman seems to be a favourite with new manager.
Hopefully with Moyes gone Maguire will no longer be part of any new signings.

Aguerd is weak as a central defender but would make a great left fullback. He is fast and has covered others numerous times and also can deliver quality balls.

    • John Sharp says:

I fully agree. In the video’s from when he played at Rennes, he was more often played as a a left back and excelled with his tackling and distribution.. Hopeless in the centre as he is not physically strong enough for the Premier League. Two new centre backs please and ditch Zouma.

Mario Hermosa is out of contract plays c/b or l/bk which would give options.
    Maybe Leif Davis, l/bk.
It will be a relief not to see Zoom(a) lining up.

Still no striker then , all the talks about defenders , having got rid of moyesball are we entering a period of loopy lopetagui ball, am I going to have to endure I know what let’s not give the ball away , and how about letting the opposition have 70percent possession , I was hoping for a change in tactic perhaps ive been misguided
