West Ham Revive Surprise Transfer Swoop for Premier League Midfielder

West Ham are understood to have resumed talks for a Premier League midfielder who had recently disappeared off the radar.

In what feels like a bolt from the blue, my old mate David Lewis at Hammers Chat is reporting “growing confidence” and ongoing negotiations in the pursuit of Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey.

The first reports of West Ham’s interest were broken by ExWHUEmployee, who has been front and centre of most Hammers transfer news this summer.

However, it now appears the interest has ramped up over the past 48 hours, with sources suggesting the club is seriously exploring the deal. Any transfer is said to be a long way from being completed but there appears to be a genuine willingness from both sides.

The 24-year-old midfielder was due to be sold to Tottenham earlier this summer, as Aston Villa looked to navigate PSR restrictions. But in an impressively cunning accounting manoeuvre, Villa sold their own women’s team to themselves for £55 million—removing the urgency to sell Ramsey or any other key assets.

West Ham’s bid for Ramsey could be back on

At that point, talk of Ramsey moving to Spurs or West Ham went quiet. But the noise is back—and if reports are accurate, Ramsey is now a serious consideration.

If true, it would suggest the Hammers have been working very quietly behind the scenes to land a midfielder who would offer Graham Potter exactly the kind of energy and drive his midfield has been crying out for.

Fits the profile. Good player when fit and on form. Bad injury record so available at a bargain price. Will Salthouse client. Ticks all the boxes.

What? Jacob Ramsey? 2 goals and 2 assists last season. Tecurring hsmstring and metatarsal injuries ( Missed 270 days in 2023–2024 due to hamstring, metatarsal, and toe injuries, limiting him to 16 appearances) 2024/2025 saw further hamstring issues. Yes sounds like a Sullivan signing alright.

The real surprise would be if there’s actually any truth in this and we sign him.

  • Dean says:

I wonder who his agent is? We could get Wilson, cooper and Ramsey and I’m sure one individual in particular will be extremely happy yet again as we use preferred agents (a policy we were assured had ended, but it appears it’s in full swing yet again)

  • Timbo says:

Initial loan maybe, can’t seem how else we would afford him. Better age than Dewsbury Hall or Luiz.
