By winning against Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham did their bit today but, unfortunately, some of the other Premier League teams did not read the script.
The 2–1 away victory in north London cut Nottingham Forest’s lead over the Hammers from seven points to five, but it could have been even better. Forest managed to hold Arsenal to a draw at the City Ground and, if I am honest, it was a deserved point, with many of the better performances coming from Sean Dyche’s side.
Like West Ham, Forest survived a dubious VAR handball call late on and, on the day, their pace and organisation were more than a match for the Gunners.
Rivals Pick Up Points Too
Elsewhere, Leeds United beat in-form Fulham 1–0, while Burnley picked up an impressive draw at Anfield. All things considered, it makes West Ham’s win look even more important.
Next up is Sunderland in the early kick-off on Saturday. Win that, and you never know how Forest might react against Brentford, particularly with a European game to contend with in midweek.
At the minute Forest are getting the rub of the green with VAR Aina’s arm appeared to move towards the ball like he was trying to keep it in. It was subtle and he had A player hitting him from behind which I think made it look less than what it was.
Against us they got that dubious penalty, over the years we have had a terrible run of them, I don’t begrudge Forest getting some but if things truly equal themselves out let’s hope we get a lot in our favour between now and the end of the season.
2 points closer is better than one or none, Burnley drawing was a shock too, one shot and they score…
Forest bought Milenkovic when we could have had him under Moyes but were given a BS excuse by DS about third party ownership… Murillo and Milenkovic are a brilliant central defence and Elliot Anderson is Rice like, will have to hope City buy him in this window. Apart from their inability to score Forest played well so it won’t be an easy fight and we need a lot more performances like the first half yesterday and a bit of luck COYI!!!
Hmm. I knew we’d beat Tottenham. Thats the west Ham way isn’t. We lose when we should probably win and win when we should probably lose. Thats always been the West Ham way.
Gutting to see the Leeds and Forest results but at the end of the day we need to just worry about ourselves. If we keep winning we will pull ourselves out of it.
If Spurs away form was as bad as their home form Westham would be in a direct relegation battle with them , unfortunately they are still 10 points ahead . Forest looked very organized and Leeds are currently competitive with every club . Crystal Palace are in free fall but 11 points ahead and Bournemouth have had a bad run but always look capable of stringing some wins together . Poor marking cost Westham another goal and so they must get more quality defensive coaches in now to stop conceding cheap goals .
Was a great result.Gooners choked against Forest, they were woeful, though am not sure how they didn’t get a penalty… small margins as Nuno likes to say.
The model of the way we played the first half, we need to find a way to do that for much more than 45 minutes. There was passing, movement, aggression, closing down, if we had had Wilson on in the first half we might have scored more. Taty and Pable were industrious though lacking clinicality. We need a bit more in the squad of goal threat, if we do get rid of Paqueta we should take a Flamengo player in part ex, Gonzalo Plata looks a handful, blistering pace and aggressive closing down from the front, though he will lack the World Class talent of Paqueta, his industry would like make him far more valuable to us and he can score a goal also.
I think we deserved the win today for the first half performance and never giving up, Wilson was magnificent in the few minutes he played, Nuno should take note, he is a World Class poacher and provider of goals.
