With the January transfer window almost at a close for the midway point of the 2024/25, the other week the speculation rumour mill began linking West Ham United with a move for highly rated, but a little bit forgotten, Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.
The 20 year old, 18 capped Republic of Ireland international, made quite the impact at the Amex Stadium as he made his breakthrough the other year, but he has recently found himself hampered by spells on the sidelines with injury and with only one goal in 15 games (11 substitute appearances) so far this campaign, his star has been on the wane and it seems that their gaffer Fabian Hurzeler is yet to be fully convinced by him.
He is however, very well known by manager Graham Potter from his own spell at the Seagulls and he could well be the man to get him back to his best. For those fans who like a flutter and find the best bookies sign up offers they may want to look at his odds as the lad still has a good record in reality, and given his age he has a lot of development potential left to achieve.
With deadline day now here, over the weekend it was being claimed that after successful negotiations, the youngster would undergo his medical on a loan move until the end of the season and that his capture would be announced swiftly on Monday.
With him again returning from an ankle injury, he did feature as a second half substitute in their heavy defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, so Potter will have few concerns about his match fitness levels, as even if he is not quite 100% yet it should not take him too long to get fully back up to speed.
If the deal does go through as planned, Evan Ferguson will be a much needed option for Potter as we deal with missing forwards Jarrod Bowen, Niclas Fullkrug and Michael Antonio and their respective injuries.
If reports are to be believed, Ferguson might not be our only deadline day capture, as we are being linked with highly rated Lorient attacker Eli Junior Kroupi.
The 18 year old talent reportedly has a number of suitors this month given his performances for Lorient in the French second tier, and if our interest is true, Potter clearly believes he can offer us something in the second half of the season as we have apparently tabled a offer worth up to £30 million.
Having initially broken through into their first team set up as a 16 year old back when they were in Ligue 1, he has been a key player for them this year in their push for promotion, and in eleven starts and seven substitute showings he has scored nine times, and provided two assists.
It could be an interesting final day of the window for Hammers fans, so we will just have to see what happens.
