West Ham United have set their sights on Brentford striker Ivan Toney as they aim to bolster their attacking options this summer, according to reports from Football Insider.
West Ham’s technical director, Tim Steidten, is leading the charge in their pursuit of a high-profile striker to add firepower to the squad.
The England international, Toney, has been on West Ham’s radar for some time, and his potential departure from Brentford before the transfer window closes appears increasingly likely.
With Toney’s contract expiring next year, Brentford may be willing to listen to offers, especially considering his recent call-up to the England squad.
As reported by Football Insider, Brentford might need to adjust their asking price to facilitate a transfer.
Despite a suspension earlier this year, Toney proved his goal-scoring capabilities last season, netting four goals and providing two assists in 17 appearances.
His impressive 20-goal campaign in the 2022/23 Premier League season further strengthens his appeal to West Ham.
West Ham anticipates facing competition from other clubs vying for Toney’s signature, given his proven track record in the Premier League. His Premier League experience and established goalscoring record make him a valuable target for West Ham.
With three signings already secured this summer (Luis Guilherme, Wes Foderingham, and Max Kilman), new manager Julen Lopetegui is actively seeking further reinforcements as he prepares for the upcoming season.
No player should consider themselves entitled to a starting spot, and every player should be working for the team…on the pitch, and as a personality. If this means starting a game on the bench, so be it. If it means being subbed at half time, same. Those are some of my criteria for anyone we sign, including a striker.
We can’t keep buying older players on big wages ie Toney zaha etc We’ve been down this route before and they will have no resale value and be injury prone as well !!! This is the Dino Moyes philosophy or dither and don’t buy anyone? We need to comply with new ppl guidelines, and operate at a profit to be able to buy players in the future that we want to improve us! COYI
David is unobtainable as Chelsea and spurs are in Europe and he wants European football like most top players! You can thanks Moyes for the fact we can’t sign him so let’s move on! Duran wants to be the main striker at the club and says he wants to play for west ham.Once we have acquired him I would sign wahi who’s a great prospect he’s young quick and can play all the front three positions. If we can sign him for £20-25m I would do it and then get todibo from nice as kilman partner.
Nobody will get Toney cheap especially wages, so perhaps Duran would be a very realistic option, given he is early twenties and behind Ollie Watkins? If he’s ambitious he might well be a good buy for us.
anything on zaha today? come on its 11am…
So Toney as a back up option if Duran doesn’t sign for us yes?
Football insider you say 🤔, the one who looks at all the rumours in the papers and then claims he is an ITK
Forget Toney, big wages no sell on value. Swerve Duran from Villa, £40m for a player with potential.
Jonathan David has all the attributes we seek and scores goals for fun. Canada are out of the Copa America and will cost less than Toney & Duran.
We would be able to make a profit when the time comes and hopefully reinvest in the future.
Not sure buying Villa’s back up options will benefit us. Danny Ings is a good example of this!
Bad example. The scenarios around Ings and Duran couldn’t be more different.
You compare Jhon Duran with Danny Ings? It’s like chalk and cheese. You must be bonkers!
Spot on Matt, i would rather we went all out for David as well
John Duran, may be a handful, may be a bit headstrong. At 21 who wasn’t? Let’s face it, the villains manager appears to be a very matter of fact complex guy.
All attackers need an edge, Toney has it too, either would do a job for the hammers. I feel as a club we have a shared management approach to sharing player development, not relying on the single manager approach at last.
If the incumbent butts heads, he will get it knocked out of him with the squad collective.
Either will be welcomed and both have a lot to offer⚒️
Duran is a young guy and he obviously rates himself so he’s not happy playing second fiddle to Watkins! If Lopetegui can Chanel his desire to play in the right way! We could have one hell of a player who’s still improving! He will be a great signing no question just hope we get it done!
Duran seems far more likely. Duran stories saying he’s open to the move are coming from both Villa and West Ham sources plus ITKs.
Duran also fits the younger player profile we’re said to be keen on and would almost certainly cost less.
Duran is away with Columbia so there would be expected to be no further progress on that for the time being
Smoke and mirror moves to get Villa to move on the Duran deal? whilst he is away playing for Colombia little can be done till next week but a Villa mate of mine says it is no secret that Emery want the player gone as he is a troublesome player in the squad…so should we be paying such an amount for someone Emery wants out of the club?
No, I don’t think we should be paying so much for the risk that is Duran. Then again, Arsenal dropped their interest in Ivan Toney because they did not like his character. There’s a lot to be said for team harmony. Hopefully Tim will sort it out!
Agree I’m not so sure on Duran myself and even though Toney is 28/29 he would be good for Marshall to learn from.
And apparently Bowen and Toney are pretty close in the England set up, I think Duran will always have one eye on his next move and the attitude isn’t needed in the squad
