West Ham have reportedly opened discussions with the representatives of Leeds United left-back Junior Firpo, according toĀ TBR Football.

The 28-year-old Dominican Republic international is nearing the end of his contract at Elland Road and is said to be keen on a fresh challenge, with the Hammers emerging as a potential destination.

Firpo joined Leeds from Barcelona for £13 million in 2021 and played a pivotal role in their Championship-winning campaign, where the club amassed an impressive 100 points. However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, he is now exploring his options.

Former West Ham boss David Moyes is also said to be interested in bringing Firpo to Everton, where the club is expected to offload veteran full-backs Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young.

Leeds are reportedly keen to extend Firpo’s stay as they prepare for life back in the Premier League, but the player appears to be leaning towards a new challenge—and the lack of a transfer fee could be a significant factor for The Irons given the clubs claims of being skint ahead of a summer rebuild.

With Emerson likely to depart for Serie A, Firpo could provide a low-cost solution at left-back. Although at 28, he doesn’t fit the preferred age profile for West Ham’s recruitment strategy, his free transfer status means we probably won’t be able to be too fussy. Also the fact that Ollie Scarles is there as understudy at least provides some balance to the oldest squad in the top flight.

Meanwhile, Leeds remain interested in West Ham midfielder TomÔŔ Souček, and it’s believed the Yorkshire club could prioritise Souček’s signing if they fail to convince Firpo to stay.

The end of the article definitely makes a lot of sense.

If they can’t convince their LB to stay then Leeds will be going balls to the wall to land Soucek? That definitely makes sense. We always talk in depth about how Soucek is a true combination of Bobby Carlos and Paolo Maldini so it’d definitely be a like for like signing.

How does this guy get a look in when KWP (Southampton) is out of contract?
Already been linked last year and this year.
One foot in the door until Southampton upped fee to £25m.
Why should whu do them any favours with Guilherme?
