West Ham are said to be quietly reigniting their interest in Colombian midfielder Nelson Deossa. Since Kyle Macaulay’s arrival in January, our scouts have kept close tabs on the 25‑year‑old, whose breath-taking long‑range screamer in the FIFA Club World Cup alerted clubs across Europe.
Deossa began his career with Atlético Huila before loan spells at Estudiantes, Junior and Atlético Nacional. In 2024, he joined Pachuca and played a key role in their CONCACAF Champions Cup triumph. Earlier this year, he signed for Monterrey—where he’s since blossomed into one of Liga Mexico’s stand-out midfielders.
Reports suggest Monterrey want around $16 million for Deossa, with interest from Roma, Real Betis and Palmeiras. Roma have already made contact with the player’s representatives and see the Colombian as a cost-effective midfield option.
The Palmeiras link is especially intriguing given their desire to replace Richard Rios, another midfielder heavily linked with West Ham this summer.
From a Graham Potter perspective, Deossa ticks a lot of boxes: athletic, composed under pressure and technically sound—according to multiple reports from Mexico. That said, this one still feels a long shot compared to other midfield targets currently being pursued.
But make no mistake—West Ham were scouting at the Club World Cup, and Deossa was on the list.
I have been saying for quite a while now that we should get this boy. He has super left foot. He’s quick covers the ground well defensively I personally think if we can get him for that price he will be a good asset
Players should be assessed over an adequate period of time, and clubs couldn’t shouldn’t have their heads turned by players that perform well in one tournament or score a brilliant goal. If we are interested in this guy, let’s hope it’s the former and we’ve done our due diligence.
