West Ham Transfer Exclusive

Claret & Hugh have today discovered West Ham’s asking price for one of the players the club are looking to offload this summer.

With the exception of the deal which took Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham, the Hammers’ outbound transfers have been painfully slow. West Ham are looking to recoup more funds and clear the decks, with midfield looking particularly bloated at present.

One of the players on the unofficial for-sale list is Scotland midfielder and Celtic target Andy Irving. At 25 years of age, the West Ham fan favourite is in need of regular first-team football — something he won’t get at the London Stadium.

Irving has already seen Irons academy graduate Freddie Potts jump ahead of him in the midfield pecking order. As a result, the Hammers are open to offers and have already received a £2.2m bid from an unnamed club.

That bid was rejected by West Ham, who believe the Scotsman is worth more. When C&H spoke to an agent involved in numerous transfers with the club, we were told: “There was a bid for £2.2m but Potter has a higher value. I think they’d accept £3.5m.”

So there it is — if Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic or anyone else want to sign the midfielder in this transfer window, they now know the price.

  • Celtic Ciaran says:

I doubt he’ll go to Celtic. They’ve got more midfielders than they know what to do with. Bit like West Ham.

  • Ammers 66 says:

He’s better than Guido and Alverez. Got to be £10m. He’s an international! Silky touch with skills and a big heart.

  • ian lench says:

You want him gone, just accept the £2.2m. Toy wont get anymore. Dont want him to go, but he has no place in the Potter camp,

  • Jack says:

Fair price but ge would have to take a drop in wages but im sure 2 million

  • Gaz says:

Not given a chance to prove himself so he should jump at this opportunity.

  • Jay says:

He’s got to be worth that money and then some. Surely a championship or a Scottish side will snap him up. Best of luck to him. He’s done nothing wrong. Just not at the level we need in our midfield.

  • Jimbo says:

That sounds like a plan! Doh!! Sell him for that and then pay 5 times as much to replace him with someone one fifth as good. Give the guy a proper chance. Also we need a SQUAD. Come November and a few injuries it’ll be “bare bones” (copyright one H. Redknapp). That fee is peanuts these days anyway

  • zahama says:

I think that is why many transfers go down to the wire – buying clubs think that the price may go down at the last minute – I am sorry that it didn’t quite work out for Irvine

  • The Cat says:

Why not £6M?……with £5M being the figure that we would accept after negotiations.
If the figures of £3.5M are out there like that, it’s no wonder we are so amateurish in our operations transfer-wise and everything else connected with this club.

Anyway, there are a few others that need to be sold before him.

  • Phil Baker says:

Andy Irvin for 3.5 million is a bargain for an international capped player . I bet he goes to Celtic and then they sell him for 15 million next summer .

  • the Real Anton Rogan says:

He won’t be going to Celtic .

    Our midfield is bloated.

Now if you have a striker and/or a winger for.sale………
