West Ham fans will be very familiar with Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, who is once again being strongly linked with a move to The London Stadium.
According to reports from Bild, both The Hammers and Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign the 24-year-old Nigerian forward, who has 8 goals in 16 appearances in the German top flight this season.
Boniface is already a familiar name to West Ham fans, having been previously linked with the club—particularly during the early days of Tim Steidten’s arrival from Leverkusen as Director of Football. Back then, speculation was rife, and now it seems those rumours are back for a third time.
Leverkusen are reportedly open to doing business, but only for a fee of at least €50 million. Boniface has been underused by Bayer gaffer Xabi Alonso’s due to the club shifting its attacking system.
A January move to Al Nassr was close to being sealed for around €77 million, but the Saudi club opted for fellow West Ham target Jhon Duran instead, leaving Boniface available this summer.
How the supposedly skint Hammers would afford €50m is unclear, but the Nigerian certainly looks to be surplus to requirements at Leverkusen.
