After the closure of the summer 2025 transfer window, each Premier League club must submit their squad lists.

Each squad contains no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the “Home Grown Player” (HGP) criteria. The rest of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be “Home Grown”.

Those who are 21 or under before the start of the season do not need to be included as you can play an unlimited number of under-21 players.

These squad lists are set to be published by the Premier League this coming week.

West Ham appears to have a squad of 20 players with 9 homegrown players, leaving five spare squad places unfilled.

Luis Guilherme, Ollie Scarles, George Earthy, Callum Marshall and Daniel Cummings are also classed as under 21 and do not need to be registered in the squad of 25.

And comments are still being made about the oldest squad in the league?

Why is Andy Irving not listed as a Home Grown player?

    • Chunk says:

Irving, being Scottish, came through an academy in Scotland. Hearts I believe. Because the Scottish have their own FA and leagues etc then he is not classed as homegrown. Would be the same for any Northern Irish player or Welsh, (Unless they came through the academy in one of the Welsh sides that play in the English Leagues). A player needs to be registered to an English academy and be there for at least 3 years prior to their 21st birthday. They can move between academies, within the country. The player does not have to be British. Guilherme, for example, providing he was also registered with our academy can be classed as homegrown when he turns 21.

To think Moyes was criticised for having only 23 players in his squads

TIL that KWP has the middle name of Leonardus.

It’s not quite the same but now I almost want to see a GIF of him shouting “This! Is! West Ham!” and kicking someone down a well.
