West Ham striker faces lengthy rehab

|

A statement from the Policlinico Gemelli hospital in Rome, Italy, quoted by  Gazzetta Dello Sport has confirmed that Gianluca Scamacca’s surgery on his right knee was carried out entirely satisfactorily.

The statement added that the operation only lasted minutes, incorporating an arthroscopy of the knee, which highlighted the tear. However, it also says that he faces a two to three month rehabilitation

Scamacca is reported to now “progressing satisfactorily”  and facing the rehabilitation period before he will be completely recovered.

Over the weekend, David Moyes admitted he was in the dark over what operation his striker was having, insisting he was ‘waiting for clear information’ before commenting further, adding he has not seen social media photos posted by the West Ham player online.

When or if he returns from Italy will become a point of speculation but West Ham will now pursue FIFA for compensation under the club protection scheme to subsidise the Hammers loss in wages.

Another West Ham player badly injured whilst on international duty and we have had our fair share of them. I do hope that we get Gianluca back to full fitness sooner rather than later as he is a player of true ability.
It still annoy’s me when I think about the legend that Dean Ashton probably would have become before he had that career-ending injury whilst on international duty, as he was truly the real deal.
Lanzini was also another casualty whilst on international duty and he hasn’t been the same player since.
I’m not saying that players shouldn’t be released for international duty, but it just seems to have been particularly unkind to us as a club.

I think this guy is a quality striker. Anyone thinking we’d be better getting rid would need to look ahead and think who we could tempt in his place. Haller was a good player but misused and then sold on the cheap. Having said that I honestly think we’ve got an upgrade. Sell both and let’s see who’d be remotely interested. Even that Dad’s Army lot should be able to work out how to get the best out of him. A good start would be to make him feel valued. That might mean admitting it’s time to move on. Antonio was great but that was then. Tell the guy he’s the number 1 and let him get on with it. Same with the keeper situation – actually even more so!
