Two West Ham supporters were assaulted while leaving the London Stadium after yesterday’s defeat yesterday evening. The lower risk category B game with Arsenal was largely trouble free inside and outside the stadium but the father and son claim they were assaulted just outside the turnstiles C close to the away segregation barrier.
Police officers were quickly on the scene but were unable to apprehend the attackers who injured an elderly supporter’s leg leaving him unable to stand and also injured his grown up son’s shoulder and arm.
Paramedics attended with the police and stadium security staff but admitted that there had been no witnesses so they would be relying on reviewing CCTV footage. The younger victim told ClaretandHugh:“We don’t know who attacked us but we don”t think they were West Ham fans. I am more worried about my dad as he has got bad legs anyway” Both fans were in visible discomfort and pain from their ordeal.
The section just outside the stadium is supposed to home fans only but ClaretandHugh’s Associate editor who sits in block 113 close to the away fans saw a number of Arsenal fans in club colours freely walking about in this section after the final whistle.
Police say they will investigate and review CCTV footage along with operators London Stadium 185.
