West Ham supporters’ left in Uefa limbo

West Ham supporters have been left in limbo in learning whether away fans will be permitted to attend European competition matches.

A decision was expected this week but Claret and Hugh has learned the decision has been delayed with no new date set by UEFA.

UEFA previously issued a warning to fans not to make any travel plans for away games as they are yet to decide whether away fans will be allowed for group stage games.

The governing body are also yet to confirm the availability of tickets for away fans for the Europa League. Neutral venues, closed stadiums and the absence of away fans are all still possibilities

It comes as the Hammers get set to kick off their full Europa League campaigns next month.

Current Covid travel restrictions mean that UEFA don’t allow away ticket allocations for European games in the Champions League, Europa League or Conference League competitions.

Austria is a green list country, Croatia is on an amber watch list while Belgium considers UK travellers as red although double vaccinated people can travel as long as they test on arrival.

All restrictions are subject to change so it will be interesting what decision UEFA will announce today and what certainly fans will get.

  1. I don’t really understand what UEFA can actually do about this Covid nonsense. Governments seem to be making policy decisions on the hoof and surely it is government legislation, enshrined in law, that is the over riding factor ? Imo world governments need to grow some Apparently the average age of a person dying from Covid is 83. I don’t know too many 83 year olds who travel away to watch their favourite football team play. Does anybody care to suggest otherwise ?
