West Ham are reported as having made the loan move of Venezuelan winger Keiber Lamadrid to the London Stadium permanent.
Claret & Hugh have learned last week from a source close to the club that the wide man, currently on loan from Deportivo La Guaira, was likely to be sent packing this summer. However, in the last few hours, The Athletic have dropped a huge Hammers update linking West Ham with multiple transfer deals.
As reported earlier, the club are keen to retain the services of Adama Traore and Jarrod Bowen. Therefore, any deal for Lamadrid would mean the club were reasonably well stocked with wide-men with Crysencio Summerville expected to leave.
£1m Clause Looks To Have Beeen Triggered
Lamadrid has a £1 million buyout clause in a deal which can only really be described as a “Sully Special”.
Recruited on the recommendation of a South American agent, chairman David Sullivan told Claret & Hugh in January:
“It’s just a punt, if it works out great.”
Unfortunately for the 22-year-old, it doesn’t appear to have had much opportunity but clearly someone at the club believes he will be an asset in the Championship.
Limited Opportunities Under Nuno
Lamadrid has struggled to impress since arriving at West Ham, with Nuno Espírito Santo omitting him from the majority of matchday squads.
His opportunities have been limited, although he did feature in the Hammers’ 1-0 FA Cup victory over Burton Albion.
As things stand, all indications are that West Ham will activate the clause and Lamadrid will not return to Deportivo La Guaira at the end of his loan spell.
Good for him – hope it means manager/coaches see real potential there, will be very interesting to see what he can do after pre-season coaching..
I think you are expecting too much when you say quality. Anyone with any quality will want to play in the premier.
We need to build a team of young hungry players, who are not going to cost massive wages, and play well as a team, no prima donnas thank you.
Yes I think Traore can go and anyone else who is not up for the fight. We need to bounce straight back 🆙
‘Leaving us reasonably well stocked with wide men’. How? Lamadrid just isn’t good enough and Traore should have been the first to go (hopefully his wage demands will prove unacceptable).
As I’ve said before the combination of Sullivan and Nuno will lead the club to disaster and when you add in the seemingly ineptitude of Kretinisky and the Boards reluctance to inject cash then administration at some point, starts to look like an increasingly feasible outcome.
Is this going to be a cheaper version of Guilherme who never got enough playing time?
Whoever is going to replace Summerville will need to have pace and find the goal.
Ruling out Coventry/Ipswich players Azeez/Mehmeti/Josh Murphy/Mason-Clark have qualities needed.
