West Ham “target” makes no sense

|

Promote from within !

This surely can`t be right

Apparently, the Irons are interested in signing the PAOK goalkeeper Dominik Kotarski in a £8.5m deal.

Since joining from Ajax last year he has been a very effective custodian and managed a decent 18 clean sheets in 41 appearances last campaign.

But the Irons already have four goal keepers!

Our current number one , the ex Polish international Łukasz Fabiański has recently signed a new one year contract but he is rapidly approaching pipe and slippers time.

The current heir to the green jersey ( are they green anymore?) is our French stopper Alphonse Areola. A proud owner of a Europa Conference League medal, will probably see him step up for more first team starts.

We also have the highly rated Joseph Anang and the 20 year old U21 Hungarian International Krisztián Hegyi

This does not send out a positive or indeed encouraging message to the two young lads.

Notwithstanding Fabianski`s inevitable departure, we should be encouraging competition for places between the sticks and promoting from within.

Perhaps they are thinking they want someone backing up, who has European experience. Anang can be bloodied into Premiership football slowly and easily that way.
