West Ham are set to lose Nayef Aguerd this summer, with the Moroccan international reportedly pushing for a move to a Champions League club.
Claret & Hugh have been informed by a top London Stadium source that Aguerd has requested not to return for pre-season training. The 29-year-old centre-back, who spent the season on loan at Real Sociedad, is attracting strong interest following an impressive campaign in La Liga.
Four clubs are now circling—Real Sociedad, Bayer Leverkusen, Marseille, and Atletico Madrid—all said to be monitoring the situation closely. Sociedad in particular are keen to make the move permanent, with West Ham wanting bids in the region of the £32 million we paid Rennes for the player back in July 2022.
Aguerd is understood to want Champions League football and sees this summer as his opportunity to take that next step. That would rule out Sociedad who finished 11th in La Liga but interest from Atletico is reportedly serious.
Interestingly, manager Graham Potter is believed to want the defender to stay. The West Ham boss views Aguerd as the ideal left-footed centre-back to anchor the left side of a back three in his proffered system.
However, the club are less than impressed with the player’s stance.
A source told C&H: “The player is contracted to us and he’ll have to return if we don’t get the right money.”
It’s clear Aguerd’s heart may be elsewhere—but unless one of the interested clubs stumps up the right fee, West Ham will hold firm.
In this case, sell for what the player is worth. CB at 29 years of age can serve his full 4 year contract, but with no resale value. You don’t need to wait for him to develop, so that means he’s worth what he’s worth now. He’s not an investment, but there isnt the concern he may not develop; he’s as close to the finshed article as you can get in football and will be so for the next 2-3 seasons. €25.00m on Transfermarkt, thats what we should ask.
Why are West Ham always so negative? If a player wants to leave and 4 clubs are interested we should be looking for more than the £30m we paid for him
Too many amateurish signings driven by Moyes and Lopetegui have left Westham in this precarious PSR position . No other club gets it wrong so often . This is why a quality DOF needs to recruit the coach as well as all the players to avoid the wrong signings and/or over paying .
We had one who wanted hansi flick who at the time was keen on the job and he would have worked well with but the stuck in the dark ages dwarf overruled or should I say undermined him and appointed his agent mates client lopetegui we regressed badly while flick went on to win laliga with Barca , the dwarf always has us tied with one arm behind our back at its got worse since gold went
Sullivan not the managers. He is @@@@@@@ cretin. He has fcukrd up so much lost the club close on 200m. He was the one who bought Ings in. His insisting on lopetegui lost us millions on player valuations. I wish would do a Maxwell and fall off the yacht he is currently on. The yacht in 500k for one week
Can’t blame the bloke.. Champions League or an improvement from 14th in the Premier league. Lets face it what half decent player would want to join a ckub that plays negative football?
Not sure if we will get £32m for a 29 year old, we would have been daft enough to have paid that in the past but unless you have money to burn a club will also normally be thinking of value for money. Pointless keeping players that don’t fancy it, so take what the market offers, £20m seems like a reasonable expectation to me. Sometimes I wonder about the judgement of those making these decisions though so perhaps he’ll be with us and sulking next season.
Maybe it’s not his attitude that is poor? Maybe it’s West Ham’s attitude towards players? This club has very little going for it,shady owners, average ( at best) manager, they don’t actually own their ground, terrible performances last season, belied only by the fact there were 3 teams that were awful, attitude begins at the top and Sullivan, Brady and co wouldn’t inspire a grasshopper to jump, after 60 years supporting I’m not very impressed! Ha e spent a fortune watching this club , NO MORE ! just my opinion ,🙏🏻😥
I do fear the not owning our own stadium will bite us on the rear In the not so distant future. I do hope I’m wrong but it is a fear nonetheless.
Trotters independent has more integrity and a business plan than our owners, whom seem more an awful 2nd hand parody.
The d|ld° Brady bunch, will have us on a Wrexham style documentary soon, about how brilliant they are I reckon.
He clearly doesn’t want to be here so get rid otherwise it will cause bad feelings amongst the squad his attitude is poor at the very least he will cause havoc if we insist on keeping him and that could and probably would cause us all sorts of problems with the rest of the squad it only takes one bad apple to wreck everything we are trying or should I say hope to achieve he has to go regardless
*Preferred
Achieve what is reasonable but do not let him go cheaply …..he’s been nothing but a pain since he’s been here ….too weak to cope in the premier league ….cant be bothered attitude…so selfish…..we owe him nothing …get rid BUT on our terms and our timing ….until then do your job or don’t expect to be paid ….
If he doesn’t turn up for training, don’t pay him his wages…..
Don’t want players who don’t want be here. Never works out. Effects team morale. Get rid.
Been he before with Payet & Anautovic.
We are never going to get £32m back for him. Being realistic it’s likely to be £20m. The loss won’t be on the epic scale of Haller tho. Think for amortisation we can sell for £12m to £15m.
The sell before we buy bullish*t is getting as boring as it is predictable!
