As previously reported ,West Ham United are in the mix to sign highly-rated French defender Oumar Solet this summer.

The 24-year-old centre-back has impressed at Red Bull Salzburg since joining from Lyon in 2020, making over 100 appearances and contributing with both goals and assists. With his contract expiring next year, Solet has attracted interest from across Europe.

West Ham’s defensive future is uncertain. The potential departure of Nayef Aguerd coupled with Angelo Ogbonna approaching pipe and slippers time means the Hammers are in the market for a central defender. Solet, who can also operate as a holding midfielder, fits the bill perfectly.

The Irons face competition for Solet’s signature. Manchester United, needing replacements for departing defenders, and Aston Villa, preparing for a potential Champions League campaign, are also interested. Bundesliga, Ligue 1, and Serie A clubs are also circling, making Solet one of the most sought-after defenders this summer.

West Ham will be hoping their ambition and potential European football can entice Solet to East London. Securing his signature would be a significant boost to the Hammers’ backline as they look to start their rebuild for next season
