West Ham to face Manchester City youngsters

Pep Guardiola says he will hand Manchester City’s youngsters another chance to shine in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup trip to West Ham.

Speaking to City’s official website after Saturday night’s 4-1 win at Brighton and Hove Albion Guardiola admitted he may field a more experienced line-up against Premier League opposition, he confirmed there will be some of our youngsters included.

“Some of them but less than against Wycombe because in that moment we had injured players,” he said.

“We had different circumstances but yes, we will take a look in the next days.

“We play on Wednesday so we will see in training tomorrow and Tuesday and after we will see what is the best decision.

“Some of them are going to play, yes.”

City are challenging what would be a fifth consecutive Carabao Cup win if they can go all the way.  Today marks five years since City were last eliminated from the domestic cup competition, having lost just once since in a two-legged semi-final on aggregate against Manchester United.

Guardiola spoke of his pride for our remarkable record but warned City have a tough ask to progress to the last eight.

“It’s good,” he added. “The League Cup is a tournament in this country and we have done quite well.

“We won it for the fourth time in a row and still we are there.

“We know which team we are going to face – West Ham away – so it is not an easy one.

“At the same time, we are going to prepare to try to win the game like we do any game in any competition.”

David Moyes is unlikely to put out his strongest team with one eye on the Premier League trip to Villa PArk at the weekend but he will still want to win this one and put one over on City and spoil their run of Carabo Cup wins.

During the third round against Wycombe, the City team lined up like this.

Manchester City: Steffen; Egan-Riley, Burns, Mbete, Wilson-Esbrand; Lavia, De Bruyne (C), Foden; Mahrez, Torres, Sterling.

Substitutes: Carson, Cancelo, Dias, Bernardo, Palmer, McAtee, Jesus.

  1. Don’t be fooled. Man C haven’t lost a League Cup match for 5 years. Pep takes this Cup competition really seriously. Make no mistake they are going all out to win it.
But then again, so are we. We are no longer scared of anyone.
