West Ham and Leeds United appear to have been chasing many of the same targets throughout the transfer window. And although deadline day passed without much drama for either club, there remain a few free agents still available.
One of those is former Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill, who many West Ham fans had tipped as a likely signing. Supporters feared the 29-year-old might be snapped up as a budget option rather than manager Graham Potter landing his top targets. Thankfully, Mateus Fernandes was signed for £38m but that hasn’t stopped many speculating the box to box midfielder would end up in East London.
Brownhill remains without a club but continues to be linked with a move to the London Stadium, with several outlets reporting that the Irons are competing with Leeds United for the ex-Clarets captain.
However, when Claret & Hugh spoke to our top transfer source, we were told bluntly: “West Ham aren’t going for Brownhill. It’s a made-up story.”
Whether that clears the path for Leeds remains uncertain, but what seems clear is that Brownhill won’t be joining the Hammers.
Leeds’ interest in West Ham midfielder Tomáš Souček earlier in the window never materialised into a move, with the Czech international always happy to remain in East London.

Keep up the good work Gonzo. It is appreciated.
They said virtually the same thing about Callum Wilson but signed him. So i don’t think we should take much notice of the assurances / lies from your source to be really honest with you.
My source? My source never said we wouldn’t sign Callum Wilson.
You do realise there are different writers on here right Tom?
The club said they wouldn’t sign Callum Wilson but that is most definitely not my source so I’m not sure how you’re claiming ‘honesty’???
