West Ham’s deadline day business looks set to fizzle out with more of a mild case of flatulence than a thunderous whirlwind many of us had hoped for.
The Hammers’ only incoming appears to be a defensive loan to replace the outgoing Nayef Aguerd—and that man is 27-year-old Igor Julio.
The Brazilian centre-back had been on the verge of joining Crystal Palace on loan until a last-minute change of heart saw him switch to West Ham instead.
It’s a deal that will disappoint fans hoping for a late swoop for England U21 defender Charlie Cresswell. Instead, Igor is expected to provide fourth-choice cover for Graham Potter’s defence.
But his refusal to join Palace could have much wider consequences. Palace had reluctantly accepted Liverpool’s £35m bid for Marc Guéhi, with Igor lined up as last-minute cover. With West Ham hijacking the move, Liverpool’s transfer for the Palace captain may now collapse.
The news is set to be a massive disappointment for Anfield boss Arne Slot who has been banking on the signing of Guehi. That said, Eagles fans will no doubt be delighted to keep their trophy winning captain who scored a peach of a goal against Villa yesterday.
Deadline day drama, but perhaps not quite the type Hammers fans had been hoping for.

Why go for this guy hes had problems with his medical at Palace
Flatulence is a good expression, sums up West Hams deals in the window,a lot of hot air with little result. What they see in a fifth choice defender at his present club I find difficult to comprehend
Remember Sullivan said judge us after the window closes.
Exactly Ray, you dont know so why bother moaning about it
So we have the money for Aguerd at 20milloon and we could get Cresswell for 17 but Sullivan goes in at 13million, why, why bother?
I have a feeling that not signing Cresswell will become another regret for West Ham down the road. Right age, right position, right attitude, right pedigree, wrong decision. Why WHU did not go all out for this one I don’t know.
His club are reluctant to let him go as they have already sold a first team defender in this window; not everything is the board’s fault
Saul, every club have their financial breaking point and we didn’t attempt to uncover it….so we went for Igor…3rd place cover at best.
