West Ham United are gearing up for a busy summer transfer window with the arrival of new manager Julen Lopetegui. The Spaniard has ambitious plans to rebuild the squad, with reports suggesting he wants up to six new signings. However, these reinforcements will necessitate player sales, with Lopetegui looking to offload those deemed surplus to requirements under his tactical vision.

One non-runner will be midfielder Josh Brownhill, who was previously thought to be available on a free transfer at the end of the season. Burnley, however, have exercised their option to extend his contract, meaning West Ham would need to pay a transfer fee to acquire him.

On a brighter note, young midfielder Flynn Downes could be handed a chance to impress under Lopetegui. Downes, a West Ham fan, struggled for playing time under David Moyes but has been a revelation on loan at Southampton in the Championship. Both West Ham and Southampton are interested in keeping him, with the Hammers holding the ultimate decision.

West Ham are also in the hunt for a new striker, with reports linking them to Algerian forward Mohamed Amoura. The 24-year-old has enjoyed a phenomenal season in Belgium, scoring 22 goals for Union Saint-Gilloise. However, the Hammers face stiff competition for his signature, with several clubs from across Europe interested.

Finally, West Ham’s pursuit of defender Zeno Debast has received a lifeline. Sporting Lisbon, previously considered the frontrunners, have yet to reach an agreement with either the player or his current club Anderlecht. This opens the door for West Ham to potentially steal Debast away, although they will need to act quickly.

Overall, West Ham United’s summer transfer window promises to be a period of significant change. Lopetegui’s arrival will likely trigger a wave of outgoings to make way for his desired recruits. The potential departure of Said Benrahma to Lyon seems all but certain, with the French club poised to exercise their purchase clause. The situations of Brownhill, Downes, and Amoura remain fluid, with West Ham needing to make key decisions in the coming weeks. The chase for Debast adds another layer of intrigue to what promises to be a fascinating transfer window for the Hammers

If silly sully is in charge of negotiations, he’ll offer well under bids so he can say he tried but couldn’t land the player he wanted. We will start the season well short of an ample squad and end up panic buying as usual. Ah well, heard it all before. COYI.

With 9 first team squad out of contract, there needs to be at least 6 new signings.
Probably 12 new signings just to get the squad up to the standard 25.
