Dortmund doubts raise questions over West Ham dealings

German outlet Bild are reporting that Borussia Dortmund are having second thoughts about signing Konstantinos Mavropanos, with West Ham said to be asking for too much money.

Last week, Sky Sports Germany’s lead correspondent Florian Plettenberg revealed that two Bundesliga clubs were interested in the defender. That was quickly followed by claims Mavropanos was open to leaving, with Dortmund emerging as the most likely destination.

However, it’s now being suggested the German side have been put off by West Ham’s reported €30 million asking price, which they believe is too high.

Transfer talks hard to believe amid West Ham chaos

What’s slightly baffling is who Dortmund would even be speaking to at West Ham right now.

For the past seven months, Karren Brady had been overseeing transfer negotiations. Following her resignation this week—and with multiple executive roles still needing to be filled—it’s hard to see who is actually in a position to be negotiating anything.

Given the current state behind the scenes, I’d be surprised if any serious talks have taken place at all. The club looks to be operating on something of a skeleton crew.

€30m valuation may actually be on the low side

As for the fee itself, €30 million doesn’t sound excessive.

In fact, based on recent performances, you could argue it’s on the low side. Mavropanos has been statistically one of the Premier League’s best central defenders over the last six games and has played a key role in the run of clean sheets.

But with West Ham’s league position and the uncertainty at boardroom level, there will be vultures circling—hoping to take advantage and pick up a bargain.

fans are loyal, but like to moan the west ham way, some players remain , let the rats leave the sinking ship, i.e. players and directors . however what is the west ham way today?????. the humiliation of of us going down and therefore allow spurs to remain in premiership, unthinkable. get behind the team, and the manager is doing a fantastic job, is he ever ruffled, never in public anyway??

    come on you irons

Mavropanos has over two years left on his contract and is performing well at premiership level, that valuation certainly isn’t steep…

Also how could West Ham put a price on the player before knowing what division they will be playing in? Go down and values tend to drop and players are more desperate to leave

30 million for Mav crazy we paid 40 million for Kilman he’s rubbish so with that in mind They should be asking 50 or 60 million

  • Rob says:

This is the hope that the instability will make it easy to get a low ball offer accepted. Personally £55 to 60 million would be closer to his value. West Ham have to stay strong and say. You want him make us an offe we can’t refuse, not laugh at.

As a long-time critic of Mavropanos, I have to eat my words & state that he is a mainstay of our defence, now. I am not sure what has happened, but he is now undroppable. Long may that continue. No matter the price, we must not sell him at any price – who would we get to replace him ?
