West Ham are reportedly targeting Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis who could be available for a bargain transfer fee.
The 23 year old centre back has been impressive for the Saints this season despite the South Coast club struggling since gaining promotion.
Whilst the majority of the Southampton squad have struggled to adapt to Premier League football, former England U21 star Harwood-Bellis has enhanced his reputation. The future son in-law of none other than Roy Keane received his first call-up for the Three Lions senior team and scored on his debut against Ireland which must have made for interesting conversation in the Keane household.
Harwood-Bellis Transfer Fee Has Plummeted
Bellis is just the latest off the Manchester City production line who has gone from youth academy for The Citizens to thrive elsewhere. He signed for Southampton following a successful loan period when the Saints £20m obligation to buy clause was triggered by their promotion from The Championship.
However, it has become known that Harwood-Bellis could be available for the knock-down transfer fee of £15m when the St Mary’s club are relegated at the end of this campaign. The defender certainly has the attributes to continue at the top level and one suspects that West Ham manager Graham Potter would be keen to utilise the player who is not only a decent defender but comfortable on the ball.
Saints don’t sell on the cheap. West Ham ended up paying £30m for JWP after the last relegation. He may join but it’ll be closer to £30m than £15m.
Transfer Market value him at £25 million, so this report appeared in The Sun who claim he could be sold for £15 million following Southamptons’ relegation. He’s 23 and like fellow England international Aaron Ramsdale will not fancy playing in the Championship, but both players were signed for a total of £45 million following the Saint’s promotion. I would be very surprised if his value fell to £15 million especially for an England international.
First things first get a bloody striker .
Where on earth do you manage to get that figure. 15m for a player on a long contract who since signing for 20m has gone on to play for England. As usual utter rubbish.
Said this a few weeks ago.
He’s good,learning still.
Will get better.
Will be what we need.
Upgrade on Mavropanos
This guy is absolute toilet, wouldn’t spend £1.5m on!
Good old West Ham- we have the 4th worst defence in the league, what do we do? I know, we’ll get someone from the worst defence in the league.
It’s the Paul Hilton way
Would be a good signing and an upgrade on Mavropanos (not a high bar, admittedly). Would you have found a reason to moan if we signed him from Man City when he was there?
It’s still the same player even if he does play for a crap side.
