Mateus Fernandes has made it clear to Southampton that he wishes to leave before the transfer window closes. His agent is currently in talks with the club, pushing to secure a move. Claret & Hugh believes Fernandes is keen on joining a top European side but remains open to returning to Premier League football at the highest level.
Southampton, however, are currently standing firm on their valuation. The club has publicly declared Fernandes not for sale, stating that only offers in the region of £50 million would be considered—having already turned down West Ham’s initial bid of £30 million.
The Portuguese midfielder is under contract until June 2029 and is reportedly earning £20,000 per week.
Speaking on Sky Sports last night, Matt Dawson was blunt in his assessment of the situation: “Will Still needs to learn about transfer dealings. He wants £50m for Fernandes, £45m for Dibling—they got 12 points last season, I mean come on!”

Despite the ongoing speculation, Will Still named Fernandes in the squad for last night’s match against Northampton Town, where the midfielder scored the only goal in a 1–0 victory.
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Southampton may be forced to reconsider their stance. Prolonging the situation could hinder their ability to find a replacement, and keeping a player who has expressed a desire to leave may not be in the club’s best interest.

Ummm rubbish. The only report that says he’s pushing for a move quotes Sullivan as the source. Other sources say he’s happy at Southampton and has agreed that if a club reaches the asking price he’ll leave.
Although Dawson ma feel its steep for Fernandes, just because teams do not want to pay it does not mean that Southampton need to sell to them.
Remember Declan Rice , he needed first team playing time to get good . Had Westham just bought an expensive , undroppable player Rice would have struggled on the bench . Westham have Freddie Potts who’s already better than Fernandes and will flourish ( like Rice did ) if he’s allowed to play . I’m tired of Westham getting screwed with overpriced players and so should walk away from this financial disaster ( 50 million Fernandes ) and back the academy .
Westham must resist FOMO . Fernandes is way overpriced and the player wants to leave . Southampton will have a problem if they don’t do a deal and Westham are the only takers . There are dozens of other options and so Westham must do as they did with John Victor and take it to the wire , even if that means buying a lesser option to punish Southampton . Guaranteed if Westham don’t buy him Southampton will struggle to get 30 ( more likely 20 million ) million because there are no other teams interested .
Perhaps he’ll do a Defoe. Remember how Defoe suddenly became a red card magnet when asked to play in the second tier?
Can’t see anyone buying him at £50m not that good, also not convinced he is the next big thing would give them £20m and JWP though.

You want good players then pay the full price
No he isn’t. A maximum of £35m would be about right for his age, current potential and one year in the Prem in a incredibly poor team that gained only 12 points. Even then, it’s a bit of a gamble.
Not sure Chelsea would rate Lavia as a Belgian at £58 million, 46 appearance with one goal and one assist, mind you he collects yellow cards for fun and loves an injury, some bargain son.
As for Fernandes a while season with Southampton in the PL and two goals with four assists, seems like you don’t get much for £50.mullion these days

Altough it won’t happen £30m plus Ward Prowse would be so perfect from West Ham perspective. Get a supposed good player and get rid of the possibility of JWP playing every game. Like my dreams…..
