Ploughing through the rumours and links in the last couple of weeks ahead of the Winter transfer window can be a tricky process. So many stories as clubs, agents, fans, news outlets and these days social media accounts fill the void with endless speculation.
West Ham, of course, need a striker – or two. And the stories have been myriad as the Irons are linked with Championship players, Middle Eastern imports and European cast-offs. Combined with the Irons’ own striker desperate to leave, one story especially has gained loads of traction in recent weeks – that of the Hammers’ interest in AC Milan’s Santiago Gimenez.
Indeed reports suggested the Irons were considering a swap with Milan taking Niclas Fullkrug to the Italian league and bringing the Mexican striker to London.
Source rubbishes transfer rumour
Our insider transfer source – a Football Agent close to the heart of Premier League business has rubbished the swap story and confirmed that reports of Gimenez possibly heading to London Stadium next month are untrue.
The only part of the rumour which does have substance, apparently, is the possibility of Niclas Fullkrug being under consideration as an option for the Italian side – along with other frontmen, although the possibility of Fullkrug being allowed to leave on a West Ham- subsidised loan does seem increasingly remote.
Thankfully West Ham appear to have told the German to take a pay cut and fund his own move or stay put.
West Ham’s search appears to be shifting to the domestic leagues as links to Norwich city’s Championship striker Josh Sargeant show no signs of dissipating.
Just a couple more weeks and thankfully the ‘phoney war’ of rumours and links will be over. Roll on January ’26 and the serious matter of bidding and concluding negotiations will be upon us. I for one cannot wait.
