West Ham boss Graham Potter has insisted the club will remain active in the transfer window and confirmed work is ongoing behind the scenes to bring in new players.
Speaking after yesterday’s 2-0 Premier League Summer Series win against Bournemouth, Potter said:
“We’re working behind the scenes and if there’s an opportunity to strengthen, we will.”
There’s little doubt that the Hammers will have reassessed their transfer priorities following the increasing likelihood that Lucas Paquetá will remain at the London Stadium. However, last night’s win over Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth also highlighted areas that still need improvement.
The long-running goalkeeper saga shows no sign of ending just yet—but there does at least appear to be intent behind the scenes to get a deal done.
West Ham’s midfield also looks in need of attention, with James Ward-Prowse still featuring heavily despite his mixed form last season.
Potter will be fully aware of where the squad needs strengthening, and it’s encouraging to hear him publicly acknowledging the need for more transfer activity.
With transfer deadline day now less than a month away, the Irons still have plenty of work to do—despite what’s been a relatively encouraging pre-season so far.
The way i look at our situation is. if we get our back-line and midfield sorted out we don’t need 2 spend 30-40-50-60 mill on a top-rated keeper in my opinion, 4 what it’s worth lol C O Y I’s
Cheers Paul.
How on earth did we win that match!!!
Probably used up all of our luck for the season.
Victor does not look like a definite Areola upgrade as he’s 29 but only been a regular starter in Brazil for one season. May be a bluff to try and force one of the other deals through. They look decent potential signings but will swallow up most of the Kudus money. I get the feeling that we might end up with a Todibo type deal for a midfielder but have to settle with what we’ve got elsewhere.
If we bring in that Brazilian goalkeeper Im afraid we will be DOWNGRADING FAR INFERIOR THAN WHAT WE ALLREADY HAVE
Areola is a training ground keeper at best so surely he can’t be worse than that
That cheap Brazilian keeper will not fit Potter’s system of play / tactics. Sullivan undermines yet another manager
