West Ham Transfers: Saints Shocking and Outrageous Transfer Demand

According to Sky Sports Germany transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, West Ham will need to significantly increase their offer if they want to sign Mateus Fernandes.

Plettenberg—who many will remember as a close associate of former Hammers director of football Tim Steidten—was once at the forefront of West Ham transfer news. Now, in his latest update, he has revealed that Southampton are willing to sell Fernandes, but only if a club meets their valuation.

That valuation is a staggering €57 million in guaranteed funds—just under £50 million depending on your favoured bureau de change. In short, it would require West Ham to break their transfer record, set when Lucas Paquetá was signed from Lyon.

The key word here is guaranteed. This means no add-ons, no performance clauses—just a straight £50 million fee, most likely paid in instalments over five years.

It’s a bold stance from Southampton, and one that makes it unlikely they’ll find many takers outside of Europe’s financial heavyweights despite last nights EFL Cup goal.

Suffice to say, if they hold firm on that valuation, their bluff may be called—and Fernandes could be spending another season in the Championship.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

We need to get Sullivan and Brady out, West Ham will never be anything until the swamp has been drained

  • Bib says:

It still amazes me how everyone and their dog ..has been telling the board for years now.stop buying over aged .over priced players .you can’t shift them on …and yet every season..the old injured no use to anyone players still get signed..

  • pat says:

There are plenty of others out there so move on..the guy from Leicester for around £25million and on Potters list so move for him whilst the spuds are busy chasing Eze…otherwise we will hang around hoping Saints drop there price and we could miss out on both targets and be left with the holy trinity of JWP/Soucek/Rodriguez starting against Sunderland!

  • mark wiggins says:

I can say for certain he is not worth £50 million if Southampton don’t budge on price move on and get an alternative!

  • Bonzo says:

As far as finding our own Fernandes, I would suggest we already have a better option in Fearon. Only seen glimpse but from what I’ve seen he could be worth more than 50-60 mil.

  • mitch says:

If West Ham really want why should Southampton sell for less than they want. Seriously going to West Ham is not much of an upgrade. Athletics Madrid fair enough. West Ham Offered 30 Southamampton want 50. Do not moan because Southampton do not want sell. West Hams problem.

  • Jay says:

Fernades never played in the championship what’s the point of writing all that if you don’t even get it right I used to watch a lot of videos by you and hope you don’t turn into a mouthpiece for the board

  • Wayne says:

We should stump up the £40m for Harvey Elliot he would fit perfectly into potters system !!!

  • Mick bering says:

Other clubs put themselves and there fans first We dont Simples

  • SteveC says:

As mentioned on Sky Sports last night, Southampton managed an incredible 12 points getting relegated last season with both Fernandes & Dybling in that team. And they’re looking for £50m for both of them. Delusional doesn’t come close! May be a ploy ahead of dropping the price from high level over next week or two. Otherwise the two lads will get a season in the Championship for themselves!

  • Hammerry says:

I agree 57M is a crazy price and I can’t see anyone paying it but the club is entitled to set whatever price they want. Perhaps we should have negotiated better on the kudus sale?

It is a real concern that we waited until now to put an offer in and find out we are so far away. We should have already moved on and had offers in for someone else by now. We need to improve our midfield and get a goal scorer in and so far it’s been a lot of talk and not action in addressing key areas.

    • Sean says:

It’s laughable how badly WH are run. We never have a full squad in place at the start of each season. Then if we sign anyone late on, they are not fit or ready. We give all of our competitors a head start. Last season was probably the exception, however with the Pearl Diver in charge of recruitment no pearls were unearthed. We clocked up a lot of air miles though on private jets !

  • Kenny Irons says:

Sure there must be better players around the world at half the price – do we actually have a scouting network ? Also, what is this obsession with players from relegated clubs ? they are part of the reason they got relegated !
Shocking summer in the transfer market, another relegation battle looms.
What I would say to Sullivan and his cronies is if you have no ambition for this club ( which you clearly don’t) then get out !
    Board have destroyed this club….

  • Paul Basnett says:

The perfect solution for West Ham would be £30M + JWP! What a result that would be, two birds with one stone.

  • Fred says:

Clearly they don’t need to sell him, he’s 21 and got a contract until 2029, they can ask what they want.

Im guessing he’s more valuable to them if he helps get them promoted this season

  • TonyinBath says:

…or he could go to Athletico Madrid for £40 mill + some change

  • Essexiron67 says:

We can’t pay that amount, move on to some else . If Southampton and others keep finding these gems so can we

  • David says:

Why is it shocking and outrageous if Southampton don’t want to sell the player?

  • weathamsteve says:

Fernandes £57m-Paqueta £51m.Now who’s taking the pi..Wake up Southampton if you don’t want to sell him,say so.Don’t make yourselves look ridiculous.

    • Jimbo 2 says:

It’s called negotiation Steve. We’re just not used to it at WH when it comes to selling players. Usually because we’re poor at selling talent but mostly because we have players no one wants as they are over the hill on inflated contracts.
