West Ham Transfers: Unhappy Hammer Given Exit Route

West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd is reportedly a target for French side Marseille.

The Moroccan international had expected significant transfer interest this summer following his solid loan spell with Real Sociedad. However, rumoured interest from La Liga’s biggest clubs has failed to materialise, while the likes of Roma and Bayer Leverkusen have since turned their attention elsewhere.

Given that Marseille recently beat West Ham to the signing of CJ Egan-Riley, many assumed they were out of the race for another centre-back. The England U21 defender joined the Ligue 1 side on a free transfer from Burnley, opting for France over a move to East London.

But it has now been revealed that Marseille are still in the market for one more central defender—and Aguerd is top of their list.

Yesterday, Claret & Hugh were told by a London Stadium source that the 29-year-old would not be available on the cheap. Crucially, West Ham’s recent shift in transfer stance—where the board are now prepared to invest without relying on player sales—means the club is protected from accepting any cut-price offers.

As it stands, if Marseille—or anyone else—don’t stump up at least £20 million, Aguerd will be expected to report for West Ham’s pre-season training.
