West Ham try again for Alvarez upgrade who ‘never gets tired’

Last summer the Hammers apparently tried and had a bid knocked back for the ‘midfielder who never gets tired’. According to a new article out today the Irons are revisiting what was presumably an old Tim Steidten target from June 2024 and are in ‘discussions’ once again.

24 years old and a combative defensive midfielder, Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup is back on the Hammers’ radar this summer. The story does have a ring of authenticity about it considering last year a bid of €25 million was confirmed as ‘rejected’ according to yahoo.sports.com.

Todays article from givemesport.com suggests the price is now a more ‘West Ham friendly’ €17 million: plus of course the added icing on the cake is that the lines of communication are very much open with Genoa, who have Hammer’s sicknote Maxwell Cornet on loan for the season and have been very much enamoured with the winger.

Surely there’s a deal to be done there which puts West Ham head and shoulders above the competition in respect of attracting the newly capped Danish International Frendrup’s signature.

Givemesport.com’s  article headed: Exclusive: West Ham Make Contact to Sign ‘Warrior’ as £17m Price Tag Set” suggests dialogue is well advanced.

Fit, a brilliant injury record and indeed an Alvarez (before he got injured)-style defensive midfielder but one who keeps his brain engaged and the red mist at bay, Frendrup fits the age and fitness profile that would appeal to West Ham without being overly expensive, especially if half of the cash came from selling Maxi Cornet: There’d be a big sigh of relief around London Stadium if that deal went through!

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Enough slagging of Alvarez. The problem is the inconsistancy in refereeing. As an agressive player, the boundaries need to be clear and applied equally. He will thrive when we are relegated.

It’s an open secret that everything about Westham is garbage , from coach to ownership to infrastructure and so only the useless and the lame will come to Westham . With Sullivan and co a relegation battle is the only possibility next season . Better hope that the 3 promoted clubs are really bad again .

So last summer he was generating interest from a number of clubs, ourselves included, and we had a £25m bid turned down.

And now, despite him still being under contract until 2028, his value has apparently dropped by nearly £10m..?

Something doesn’t exactly smell right there…

Newly capped as well, so the Danish manager thinks he’s better than when we were knocked back.
