The big, shiny computer puts West Ham as underdogs ahead of the final in Prague
The men with the white coats have been playing with their computer again…
And they have given West Ham a 48 per cent chance of winning the Europa Conference League Final.
The Hammers will meet Serie A side Fiorentina in the final in Prague on 7 June, with the Hammers given a 52 per cent chance of lifting the trophy.
So, apparently we go into the final as underdogs, which oddly enough is not shared by the bookmakers who make us slight favourites
The website FiveThirtyEight run something called a Soccer Power Index (SPI) and have given us a rating of 71.1, compared to Fiorentina’s 72.6.
The final in Prague will be one of the biggest nights in the history of West Ham, with the game representing the first final for many of our supporters.
The Hammers faithful will make the trip to the Czech capital in huge numbers, but of course only a lucky few will be able to watch from inside the stadium.
West Ham have played well in their Europa Conference League campaign to get to this stage, but they still have a massive task on their hands given the tough test that will come against Fiorentina.
It will also be a huge occasion for the Italian side, who will also be roared on in Prague by thousands of passionate fans.
For the Irons, the tournament has represented a much-needed respite from our Premier League struggles, but perhaps nobody imagined the club getting this far, particularly given the pressure on manager David Moyes.
Bet the super computer doesn’t know we have a bit of home advantage with our two check mates and therefore surely the check citizens in the crowd will be cheering on West Ham. At the end of the day though it’s a one of cup final which could go either way. 50/50 seems about right.
It’s going to be tough in Prague, Fiorentina good enough to beat Inter Milan last month in Serie A, and we know which final Inter are in! Anyway we do look like a bit of form is coming back so COYI !
