The club is unlikely to take over responsibility for stewarding of West Ham matches in the short term at the London Stadium Claret and Hugh have learnt today.

Last month stadium owners bought out operator London Stadium 185 from French owners Vinci Stadium effectively bringing the operations and day to day management in-house to E20 owned by the public body LLDC.

It had been hoped that LLDC could have turned to West Ham owners with over 25 years experience of running stadia and asked them to run stewarding and security for football games at the former Olympic Stadium. It now appears E20 plan to employ stewards themselves as they attempt to get to grips on the huge losses incurred by the stadium.

West Ham football games regularly require up to 1,250 stewards for each match, all of which who are entitled to the London Living Wage of £10.55 per hour after an agreement with the London Mayor to pay all sub-contractors LLW.

A senior source told Claret and Hugh: “Now that the running of the stadium has been taken back by the owners we are hoping they will start hiring their own staff and not just use agency staff, but we have no real say other than make suggestions.”
