Crysencio Summerville trebled his wages when he agreed to join West Ham from Leeds United in June 2024.
Yet just two years later, the Dutch winger is already being heavily tipped as one of the players most likely to leave the London Stadium this summer.
Summerville remains under contract at West Ham until June 2030, with the club also holding an additional one-year option.
Ironically, unlike during his time at Leeds, there is no relegation release clause written into his current contract.
Back at Leeds, Summerville did have a relegation clause set at £25m following their drop from the Premier League.
West Ham Could Still Owe Millions More
There are also understood to be significant add-ons attached to the deal which brought him to East London.
Around £5m was reportedly linked to European qualification — if only — along with appearance-based clauses.
And any international appearances for the Netherlands national football team could reportedly trigger another £4m in payments.
Like the majority of the West Ham squad, Summerville’s wages would also reduce by 50% should the Hammers suffer relegation.
Roma Interest Growing In Summerville
Summerville is represented by Team Wass, who also represent teammate Max Kilman, former Hammer Flynn Downes and ex-West Ham manager Graham Potter.
As Gonzo noted yesterday, Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport claim AS Roma are monitoring the winger closely and sense an opportunity if West Ham are relegated.
However, Roma would almost certainly need to break their own transfer record — the structured €42m deal for Patrik Schick back in 2017 — to stand any realistic chance of signing him.
West Ham Yet To Receive Any Offers
Much will still depend on which division West Ham are playing in next season and who is actually managing the team.
And it’s also important to point out that as things currently stand, the club have not received any formal approaches for the player.
What is clear though is that West Ham are not prepared to let Summerville leave cheaply and unless a genuinely significant offer arrives, the Dutchman could easily remain at the London Stadium for at least another season.
As a Leeds fan Summerville is a great player but he isn’t worth much more than West Ham paid for him. Asking 35 million plus is nonsense.
Summerville has proved hes worth much more now than when he came to west ham utd anyone who cant see that has to be completely blind so there is no way he will be allowed to leave on the cheap ok most likely we will go down but its not over yet it may only be a very slight chance but its a chance that the team and fans will give everything we live in hope
Hardly, we paid £40m for Max Kilman. Summerville must be worth that sort of money, he’s still young and a real threat when he gets a run of games. Hope he stays but can’t blame the guy for not wanting to play in a lower league again.
