A summer storm in Jacksonville delayed West Ham United’s Stateside Cup tie with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. Many Hammers fans stayed up late in anticipation of watching the late-night stream on WHUFC TV.
The original kickoff time was scheduled for 12:00 am but was then pushed to 12:30 am (7:30pm EDT) due to significant flooding on the pitch. With many fans still glued to their laptops and phones, the altered start time passed without any further updates or signs that the game would recommence.
Northeast Florida was hit by a massive storm around 4:30 PM local time, with thunder and lightning crashing overhead and the pitch being hit with a deluge of heavy rain. However, the rain did eventually stop, but pictures posted on social media from within the stadium do show severe flooding . The most recent update from the club was over an hour ago and there is reportedly still standing water on the playing surface.
Fans may wish to follow updates on West Ham’s social media accounts, however with very little information from the club within the last hour, it’s hard to see the game going ahead at this stage.
