West Ham United continues to closely monitor the situation regarding the Coronavirus outbreak an official club statement has said this afternoon.
The club says ‘All necessary measures are being taken and our medical staff, in line with guidance and advice from the relevant authorities, are constantly managing the Club’s position, with the safety and welfare of our players, staff and supporters being of paramount importance.
After discussions with the Premier League and our medical team, Sunday’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers at London Stadium is scheduled to go ahead as planned.
The Club will keep supporters updated should the situation change.’
There were fears that Sunday’s game could have been postponed after West Ham players came in contact with Arsenal players who have since been told to self-isolate after meeting with Olympiakos and Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis. The Premier League called off this evening’s game between Manchester City v Arsenal.
ClaretandHugh: It’s great news that the game goes ahead although it will be noted that the club is making it clear that they will be keeping everybody informed should the situation change. Obviously the cancellation of the Manchester City/Arsenal game caused early fears within the Hammers camp which have been put to rest for the moment. It’s a pity that it takes a public health scare to give any team an edge in games of football but if the current circumstances appear to favour either of the teams then it’s the Hammers who could well gain an advantage. With the old gold team being forced to travel to Greece and play in an eerie behind closed doors atmosphere before facing the Hammers that would appear to be the case. We may also have an advantage from the possible absence of Adama Traore who has been struggling with a shoulder injury for several weeks and finds it tricky to play a full 90 minutes.
