West Ham wait on defender

West Ham wait on defender Edson Alvarez recovering from sickness but currently he remainsĀ  uncertain for Thursday night and Sunday’s games.

Edson has been sick since last week having returned from the international break feeling ill but climbed off his sick bed to taker part in the game against Spurs.

However, that may not have done him too much good as he missed the weekend game leaving Tomas Soucek and James Ward-Prowse to anchor midfield – not the best scenario. Should he not be available the manager will need to decide which of Tomas or James is allowed to stride forward on occasions. Hopefully the goal scoring Czech Republic skipper.

Our sources at the club are insisting that Moyes will need to play his best team against well in form Freiburg who are on level points with ourselves at the top of the group. That means there can be no place for Mavropanos should Zouma be available to play but the choice must be made as the skipper can’t generally play in two successive games.

Moyes may decide that the Europa League game is of more importance than Wolves and if so expect to see the skipper lining up against the Bundesliga team. It’s worrying that the manager has spoken of the fringe players perhaps not being at their best and able to step up when required. The likes of Ings, Fornals and Benrahma just aren’t hacking it.

That makes the risk of injuries to any of the regulars even more worrying and exasperating from a more general point of view given the money that has been spent on the squad.
