Widely tipped by Hammers’ fans who remember his journey through the academy of football, Michael Carrick would be the romantic’s choice for the role of head coach at London Stadium to succeed Julen Lopetegui. However, untried at Premier League level, he’d be a high-risk appointment for David Sullivan to make after the debacle of his selection of Lopetegui.
In addition, of course, you’d have to ask yourself why Michael Carrick at this stage in his management career would want to come to London Stadium? In the midst of a promotion charge with Middlesboro’, surely had’ rather stay on the safe ground of his current role at least until the end of the season rather than walk slap into a toxic West Ham United power battle between David Sullivan and Tim Steidten.
However, according to today’s Mirror, “West Ham will consider swooping for Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick if the Hammers decide to sack Julen Lopetegui.
Carrick, 43, is one of the names high up on the shortlist at West Ham. Boro would not want to lose their manager who is helping to build a promotion push in the Championship. But West Ham are eager – if they decide to change – to bring in a manager with an attractive style of football and a link to the club”
I’d still suggest for both Carrick and the club that now might not be ‘his time’.
CARRICK . of course if he wants the job then give him a chance . West Ham have little to lose but everything to gain l am pleased MARTIN you recognise differing opinions because I totally disagree with you on this item. let me try to explain:-
you say that CARRICK is the Romantics choice .
Well isn’t Romanticism at the HEART of football , from the owner who buys a failing club and loses financially, to the coach who is aware of the P. 45 every Saturday , the players who are put against far better opposition and the supporters who can only DREAM.
YOU say CARRICK is untried and therefore a risk , would you not say that LOPETEGUI was a far greater risk then or an experienced manager who happens to have been sacked, often regularly. Finally how about a travelling carpet bagger who’s only interested in the MONEY .
YOU say why should CARRICK want to come to W. H.
perhaps he’s a romantic like the rest of us, wanting to get back to his roots, and help the poor old club ? there are people like that you know.
You say why should he get stuck in the middle of a toxic battle between Sullivan and Steidten.
IF he is allowed to do his job professionally then perhaps the toxicity will disappear.
You say in your opinion that this is not the right time for him.
Is there ever the right time, rarely , you have to grab the chance, when offered ,or possibly lose it forever!
I have said elsewhere that a good COACH needs the ABILITY TO PROPERLY COMMUNICATE WITH HIS TEAM, CONVEY HIS IDEAS CLEARLY, AND RESPECT THE INDIVIDUAL PLAYER’S STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES. I BELIEVE CARRICK WOULD TICK ALL THE BOXES AND A LOT MORE BESIDES.
how about we let the director or football pick the coach he wants to work with? then we can judge the whole package and hold him accountable or not
You are correct sir! Should have been the course of action from the jump.
We DO NOT need Carrick or Potter. What’s needed is a top foreign manager if we are to progress
Said it in the summer, still say it. This is the type of Coach we need. Ticks a hell of a lot of boxes for now and the future as long as Sully keeps his nose out.
Hire him as a player-coach! He’s only a bit older than Fabianski. He could lace-up and improve the ball movement in our midfield straight away!
I have to agree, I think he would turn us down atm because that will set his career back.
Sully doesn’t like paying release clause’s for Managers.
I’d give Will Still a call or give Nobes the caretaker role.
Not a good idea. It hasn’t been completely plain sailing up at Boro and this would be a big step up , same as it was for Lampard and that didn’t work
