West Ham were desperately unlucky

|

Arsenal 1 West Ham 0

West Ham were desperately unlucky to not get anything from their away trip to the Emirates this afternoon.

The only thing to separate the two teams was a deflection off Declan Rice’s shin late in the game which fell perfectly for Arsenal to get the only goal of the game. The Hammers played well for the majority of the match and looked like they were destined to earn a point with Arsenal off-target and out of form offering little chances of any note.

Despite only having 31% of the ball West Ham wasted chance after chance and were punished by a single goal from Alexandre Lacazette with just 12 minutes to go of normal time. After a lengthy wait, VAR overturned an offside call given against Mesut Ozil but it was an extremely tight margin.

Jarrod Bowen hit the bar early on and Michail Antonio and Seb Haller came close several times too but the Hammers finishing was not good enough to take the lead.

Like Liverpool, Arsenal were there for the taking today but we squandered the chances to take all three points.

On the brighter side, it was a third good performance in a row by David Moyes men and they certainly don’t look like a side destined to be relegated.

With Norwich, Bournemouth and Watford losing  West Ham remain 16th, above the bottom three only on goal difference.

Theres no ,let’s take the positives this weeks but bowen has spiced it up ,,,,let’s look forward,,, look forward..??. how many games is left ???we look forward and the seasons over ……do they know how annoying these sayings are ,we have heard them non stop all season…..its ok for them they will all move on if we go down …well imo when,,…..

A game we could and should have won , even with ten men . Noble is abysmal . He is a passenger and contributes nothing to the team . He is slow in mind and body and his time is up .

    oh dear, back to normal.

I miss Chicharito! A way better finisher and striker than every single one of the players today. Of course, he also struggled by playing solo upfront. But he did produce some points when needed. I remember a lot of you weren´t satisfied. Well, this is what we get from spending big-time money in every transfer-window. Haller is not a better player just because he is younger and has a good agent. The so called value of players aren´t realistic unless they have proven them self in premiership etc… Even Lucas Perez would have hit the target today.

  • Eastendexile says:

I have been on before about Antonio that he has a scattergun approach in front of goal sometimes, and when we were two v one he should have set Haller away for goal number one today. He is quick but not premier league skilful and would be better on the wing.
Whilst very impressed with Bowen, he needs to consider passing sometimes instead of shooting with his left peg but overall he looks dangerous every time he’s on the ball. Would like to see him closer to Haller and Anderson to be on much sooner. Someone earlier said he looked disinterested, but he needs game time not bench warming. Soucek must start next game and I would like to seem him on for Noble.
We have enough about us to get out of this mesh, but Moyes needs to tweak a little bit more

  • Artran says:

Same old comments, two or three players great, two or three players rubbish. The big trouble is that it’s the same players that are judged to be great one game are then judged to be rubbish the next. We will only get out of this mess if more players are on their A game consistently every week.

    • Hammerkip says:

Fab apologised last week rice the week before and so on ..
Every single week its oh it’s my fault or we played well but
Or I m happy with the performance but !
It’s just never ending, 1 win just Dosnt cut it , let’s be honest whether the players are to good to go down or not ,,we deserve more than anyone to go down because we just ain’t good enough together,, 1 or more players let the team down every single week , there is just no consistency at all …playing well isnt good enough now we need to win games WE NEED POINTS ..this was another game we should of won let alone draw and once more we come away with nothing…..!!!!!!!

    • AspiEd says:

      Exactly!
Although, I fear that too many ARE already on their A game.

  • Nick says:

Antonio needs to be moved on in the summer if we’re to progress. Yes he has pace but lacks any composure. The fact he’s had three new contracts since he first signed is beyond me!

  • Hammerkip says:

How is it unlucky that we miss chance after chance after chance…that’s not unlucky,,that’s not being able to finish, which also means relegation, i wss angry that we lost to liverpool and everyone said, oh we should be proud, then they lose the nxt to games one against Watford 3_0 …unlucky
    Do me a fu….ng favour, unlucky jesus…

  • Simon M says:

Not unlucky. The forwards … Antonio and Haller look uninterested, lazy, and not clinical.
Sorry sir, you cannot call spurning good match winning chances as unlucky …. no sir.
If this was the English national team playing a weaker side, and lose 0-1 after all those chances ?

  • Zac says:

Thought we played well today. Was happy with the line up and deserved to win or draw at the very least… but for poor finishing!

One thing that annoyed me though, the game was crying out for Anderson to come on at 70 minutes and stretch the game – Moyes only reacted when we conceded. He’s a reactor to situations, never proactive.

    • Hammero says:

As you say needed Anderson on earlier. Bowen nearerer to Haller and Antonio on right. The game was there for winning, but Moyes cannot or will not ever try and win a match away. Just hoping we conjure a goal from somewhere rather than pressurising

    • George Green says:

Watching live from close to the action I thought Noble needed to be subbed about 19 minutes earlier and for Anderson to replace Haller or Fornals to freshen up our attack.

  • paul Lewis says:

Sorry but we weren’t unlucky, Antonio continues to miss open goals and this is the big boys league, where chances have to be taken. Same old story week after week, create and miss, create and miss, then concede

  • Hammer_Rite says:

On the brighter side, it was a third good performance in a row by David Moyes men and they certainly look like a side destined to be relegated.
    ?

    • I missed the word Don’t We Don’t look like a side destined to be relegated

    • Hammero says:

We have won 2 matches under Moyes. Have hardly any possession in any match. And team concede nearly every match in last 20 mins. A left back who struggles to get goal side and a captain who can’t run

  • Jeff says:

Antonio is NOT a premiership finisher, he’ll do great in the championship for us next year but is not good enough in front of goal.. Haller is clearly NOT a premier center forward. No mobility, doesn’t anticipate, way way average. There’s tiungsters that can produce more than Haller, a HUGE waste of money.

  • Hammero says:

Poor management. We have lost so many matches in last 20 mins because the manager leaves the captain on when it is clear he can’t close down quick enough. 3 or 4 times leading up to that goal he was just too slow to get there. We played well but lack quality in key moments. This is not luck. From now on Soucek has to start for Noble. And Bowen and Antonio need to swap roles

    • Wembley1980 says:

      Spot on!

    • Norwegian hammer says:

I think you are are wrong. Our captain is maybe not perfect in your point of w. But the fact is that Nobes gave the ball away just ONE more time than the centre-backs. And his role is often to play long passes, assists, shooting from distance etc. (risky passes and strikes) SofsScore.com :Skipper Mark Noble gave away nine balls to Arsenal with Pablo Fornals, Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop all giving away eight balls each to the oppo. ….

    • AspiEd says:

      Fair comments.
As was said elsewhere, Noble leads from the front.
Therein lies the problem since his role is supposed to be to lead from in front of the back.
He seems to have carte blanche to assume the distribution role and is just not up to it. Nearly everything he does is either pointless of totally transparent.
Unlike last week, too many players were far too slow in getting forward and that cost us the game.
The VAR decision is merely a red herring as the game was almost inevitably going to be lost once so many chances were wasted.
I do not agree that we played well or should take comfort in that. Arsenal were abysmal and won the game thanks to our incompetence.

  • hammers64 says:

It’s there near the top of all football cliches. If you do not take your chances they come back to haunt you.Certainly a lot more optimistic after the last 2 performances but once again the footballing gods kicked us in the nuts as is always the case when you are down at the wrong end.Moyes will be gutted cos we really had this one for the taking.Antonio alone should have had 3.Can beat Wolves at home on this form if they put their shooting boots on.

  • Sullywhu says:

Antonio puts a shift in but gave the ball away 26 times today 10 more than any other player on the pitch…hus touch and awareness are terrible and he should have had a hat trick but halker was lazy again… Didnt deserve to lose and should have won but we didn’t and if we keep squandering chances at this level we will be relegated but a great all round performance Bowen was fantastic pace and great control…gutted…if we had two half decent finishers up front we would be on 30pts tonight 😡😡⚒️

    • Hammero says:

Bowen and Haller are decent finishers. Thought Haller linked playy well. Playing Bowen as a right midfielder is a waste. We need him further forward more often. But Moyes and Noble, from his comments in Standard want him to make tackles in our six yard box. This is why we don’t score enough

  • blimey! says:

Disappointed by the VAR overruling, but guess West Ham should be getting used to it by now….
    Points dropped today.

  • Trevor Smart says:

Yes very unlucky but we had enough chances to come away with a win let alone a point
