West Ham United remain interested in Rennes midfielder Djaoui Cissé despite the ongoing uncertainty over Graham Potter’s future.
The Hammers attempted to land the 21-year-old during the summer transfer window and could return with a bid in January. However, any move may hinge on whether Kyle Macaulay—Potter’s right-hand man and key figure in recruitment—remains at the club. Macaulay is expected to depart if the manager is dismissed.

Macaulay’s future is closely tied to his pal Potter
Cissé, a Rennes academy product, broke into the senior side in February 2024 and has already made 20 appearances for the Ligue 1 club. He further enhanced his growing reputation at the Under-21 European Championship, scoring three goals in just four games for France.
That breakout tournament has placed him on the radar of several European clubs, with West Ham among those monitoring his progress. The irons sent scouts to watch the player for both club and country with encouraging reports.
Energetic, direct, and with an eye for goal, Cissé would be an interesting addition. But the Hammers’ pursuit remains closely tied to the fate of Potter and his backroom staff so it’s hard to get too excited about this link which seems premature at this stage.
The bid will be insufficient.
They’ve already tried twice with lo-ball bids.
Some things will never change especially at whu.
What’s the point if he sits on the bench and can’t get a game. We have young players maybe as good, maybe not but haven’t had a chance to show it yet!
Ha ha ha! This is ‘rage bait’ surely?
Let’s get real. There is zero chance of us signing a player that is seemingly that good because a) we’re a joke of a club and b) we can’t keep out mouths shut and do our business quietly…
…meaning all these articles do is demonstrate “B” above and alert any other (more effectively run) club to their availability.
Until our whole modus operandi changes to one of a savvy business, we will never work.
