Transfer deadline days have sometimes been dramatic, sometimes dreadful but never dull. Last summer the reports of midfielder Carlos Soler ‘jetting in’ on deadline day proved correct as the Spaniard signed on a year long loan, capping a momentous if ultimately controversial transfer window with ten players signed.

How many of those ten have gone on to succeed is another article in itself.

This summer deadline day is set to be nerve jangling for the Hammers if givemesport.com’s  article is proven correct and West Ham continue to the bitter end with their ‘long game’ plan to secure the services of reluctant recruit Jacob Ramsey. Their article suggests West Ham see Ramsey as the game-changer signing they’re after and comments:

“The East London club have a budget of just £30m to strengthen in the middle of the park, with Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey still their top target. GMS revealed this week that the club are willing to wait until the end of the window to get a deal done for the 24-year-old, despite him showing a reluctance to move to the London Stadium”

Which sounds like a recipe for failure. Hard bitten West Ham fans will point to this as being another potential ‘we tried to sign him‘ lament by David Sullivan if Ramsey stays set in his opinion that he’s not interested in coming to east London.

Surely far better to get over it, wish the player well and move onto the next target until the club find someone who DOES want to come to West Ham and get a deal done before the Sunderland game in ten days time.

If the Hammers are genuinely planning on spending £30 million, that is.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Should have stuck with big Tim Steidten! He’d have bought some youngster by now

  • OLIVER says:

How many times have we herd this I said it before Sullivan is taking the fans for fools what did he promise when we left Upton Park

Jarrod Bowen signed for us with an hour to spare on deadline day. Was nearly a Newcastle player. I always wait until the window closes then look to see weve got.

  • Dudley Tyler says:

There seems to be this idea that West Ham uniquely are having a bad window. Other than the greedy seven (and Newcastle are in a real mess) who have lots of money everyone else is just bumping along. Those that are buying are having their pants pulled down. Nonsense numbers for players just because they were in the Liverpool squad, Everton paying Chelsea twenty-eight million for a player with two PL appearances last season. Sullivan may be tight with the money but if the answer is nearly thirty million for Dewsbury-Hall perhaps he may be on to something.

Have we not learnt from the Duran debacle A Villa wont sell to us and the player dosnt want to come Cant be much clearer can it Seems like we tried then being to late to spend the money scenario

  • Sue says:

I wish West Ham would just move on from Ramsey
He wants European football, end of conversation and does not want to come to us anyway
We only want players who are happy to sign for us
For god sake get over it and get another player signed up
Please don’t wait until the final day/days pursuing him
    Forget him

  • Julian Woodhouse says:

If reports are to be believed Ramsey has no interest in joining us, so why persist, if that is indeed the strategy, why look to try and convince someone to come who doesn’t want to whilst alternatives go begging. Only we would be so stupid.

  • John Mills says:

Move on if the player is reluctant. Has picked up quite a few injuries and is not yet proven through the middle, only out wide. Push the boat out for Fernandes or Sudakov (gamble).

wont be needed once Brownhill has been unveiled as our “Marquis” signing

  • Macephtopheles says:

So we’re going for the Mrs Doyle approach of on hearing someone isn’t interested just saying “G’wan, g’wan, g’wan, g’wan, g’wan, g’wan…” and hoping he’ll change his mind?

I mean, you could generously call it a strategy I suppose, but think most would say it’s a “waste of time” with some choice “French” words thrown into the mix.

Givemesport if Fabrizio Romano is the oracle of truth they are in comparison a muddy puddle of opinions

Transfer windows now are just a series of reported dross, apart from the fact Ramsey is a below average pl player that won’t suit Potters style of play and is a failure at Villa adding to the fact he thinks he’s better than us, am completely unconvinced he is even on the radar of Potter if he is we should steer well clear. Soler who didn’t make it last season is a better player than Ramsey so we should be we should be aiming younger and more technically gifted with hunger to improve such as Fernandes if we can get that done.

Rumours today we are still in for Idrissa Gueye seeing as he is Senegalese wonder if Diouf has an influence there he is a genuinely pacey attacker though looks like might take a while to get him PL ready.

It looks like Potter is aiming in some games for a 5 3 2 system Potts, Alvarez and Paqueta might be the 3 with Bowen floating between Right wing, left wing and no 10 Füllkrug or Wilson as CF

  • Phil Baker says:

Westham already have too many players who’d rather be somewhere else . No more Kudus the Judus scenarios where a player says something disgusting like ‘ I only have Spurs in my heart ‘ , while he’s still a Westham player . If Ramsey isn’t keen he certainly won’t play well and Westham will be trying to offload him next summer for yet another huge loss . Westham still have up to six players to dump for less than they paid for them .

  • Mike Nicol says:

Frankly nobody believes a word that the club say. We never have (well not for the last 40 years anyway). Mr Sullivan will do exactly what he wants. He always does. The contempt he and the rest of the board have for us fans is commendable. With regards to Ramsay, if you don’t want to come here son. Say it out loud. We’ll respect you far more. As the article says; let’s move on to a hungry young player who actually wants to play for us. One of those that have been working so hard in pre season perhaps.
