West Ham Wonderkid Set For Big Summer Decision as Big Offer Looms

West Ham manager Graham Potter is understandably taking his time to assess his squad before deciding who to ditch in the Hammers’ summer sale.

And one of the very first decisions the West Ham manager will have to make is the future of Luis Guilherme. The 19-year-old Brazilian winger has said very little about his so-far underwhelming move to England. However, it was clear from his social media posts before the Premier League game against Leicester City that he believed he was going to play some part in that game.

Claret & Hugh were informed in January that the club had decided to keep the youngster and that he could expect more game time. Unfortunately for Guilherme, that just hasn’t happened, and the club’s decision not to sell or loan the player out looks worse with every passing game.

Brazilian club Flamengo made a £20m offer in January, which would have given West Ham almost all of their money back. However, the deal was rejected by Potter, who wanted to assess the player further.

Guilherme has seen little game time

Claret & Hugh have been informed by the same source who broke the news that Flamengo will be back in the summer to try and steal the youngster away. With the Hammers admitting they are desperate for money to fund new signings, a decision must be made.

Can the club really afford to hang on to a £20m asset who doesn’t play? I would think it’s unlikely, and as a result, Guilherme will have to get some serious game time between now and the end of the season to justify keeping him

i’m convinced now that the continued overuse of the term WONDERKID has become a complete wind-up from the C& H writers 😏

if we give him a start and he has a shocker, what do we do then? i’m not saying that we shouldn’t play him – i’d love to see him rip it up – but there has to be an element of caution in the coachoing squad/ boardroom’s thinking, i’m guessing. how much selling power do we have with a player who fluffed his first game or 2?

19 year old with bags of potential, can see it in him in the few minutes he’s played, literally 0 point selling him any time soon, not least because of the fact that he’ll be homegrown at our club when he’s 21, which we’ll need if we ever get back into Europe.. imagine signing a wonderkid, and selling him 12 months later without even giving him a decent run in the team
Also, on football manager he turns into a world class attacker, that alone in my books is reason to give him game time 😂

It’s not fair on the kid to say he’s not up to premier league standards he hasn’t been given any real
Opportunities to show his talent I think if or when he’s given the chance we will have a top player on our hands but as things stand he’s not one or the other let’s get him playing and see how that works out for him

I’m sure we’ll see Guilherme feature more in the 11 fixtures that still remain. Little doubt in my mind that Steidten got us a good player here.

  • Phil Baker says:

If Guilherme doesn’t get good game time in the remaining ‘ dead rubber ‘ matches of the season questions will be asked of Potter’s competence since it was he who opted to keep him .

  • Macephtopheles says:

He’s in a tricky spot really. I know people are saying to play him (and I’d like to see that too) but he hasn’t really had a place.

Lopetegui went with a system (Moyes (negative)2.0 you could argue) where he had Bowen and Kudus in the right wing/inside forward role ahead of him and when it seemed more positive (for him) with the injuries to Antonio and Fullkrug seeming like Bowen would be our forward it seemed to give him more opportunities. Then Bowen got injured and it REALLY looked like game time was coming… then Lopetegui gets sacked. Potter comes in with a new system and Bowen turns out to be a secret Wolverine and heals real quick.

All that said though, we’ve got a 16 point cushion, GD isn’t an issue and there’s 11 games to play. He’s already shown more than Savio Nsereko ever showed so now’s the ideal time to either show he has value going forward or show others interested in him that he’s worth putting more money on the table for him.

Having three good players for one spot is great if we are in contention for anything, but that’s not the case. Once the relegation risk has passed, the kids should be given a run. It allows the manager and staff to properly assess them, and gives the academy players an understanding of what the real world is like.

  • Terence says:

Either play him to see if he is good enough for prem, or sell him. It’s not fare to distrupt his career, or sell him. But if GP don’t want to sell him then he has seen something in the kid he likes. So play him in the under 21s.

  • Ian the sub says:

don’t you think that the board. Will want more game time so that his rating and consequent value will or could rise by exposure. I really wish you two give your subjects a little more thought before you start rattling the buttons. otherwise it tends to make your readers even more cynical.

  • Jeeps says:

It is repetitious because fans want to see him played and whu to fulfil their promises.
Such a waste to have this talent sitting on bench.
    Derogatory action on management decision.
Give him at least 45 minutes for 50% of remaing games.
Why did Potter want to keep him if he didn’t intend playing him?
His resale value won’t increase without playing time.
