The loudest cheer of the afternoon at the London Stadium was for George Earthy’s goal, which brought the score to West Ham 3-1 Luton Town.
There’s something special about watching a young player rise through the ranks at West Ham. Perhaps it’s the crest that reads “Academy of Football,” or maybe it’s the club’s rich history of developing talent. Whatever it is, it’s never been more crucial than it is now.
With Declan Rice leaving for Arsenal, Ben Johnson seemingly on the way out, and an aging squad, West Ham are desperate for someone to step up to the first team.
Earthy’s impact had been delayed due to a recent concussion injury, but his immediate influence off the bench against Luton Town stole the show. His spatial awareness, eye for goal, and technical ability are already at a high level, and he’s developing rapidly.
Make no mistake, Earthy has talent, and he’s not alone. West Ham’s academy is packed with wonderkids ready to step up. Let’s hope George is just the first of many.
Ah he’ll nah
Blinking with disbelief that anyone can credit Moyes with any success of the Academy!! All he’s done is sit a few on the bench. He played Earthy by public demand!! Could have played Marshall but loaned him out. Chelsea, Spuds and Liverpool all giving youngsters a few minutes, whilst we, having stormed the U21’s, see nobody. It’s Steve Potts who has developed the Academy.
Absolutely fantastic for George earthy, he took the first of many we hope very well, he is a fantastic talent and i dont see him being anything other than a huge success, if he keeps his head continues to work hard and progresses as expected he will become a 1st teamer regularly. Just pray he doesn’t take a, wrong turn like mubama, and Johnson nda few others have. Some players agents aren’t there for the clients just for the money, keep you head George and great to see you back after the concussion.
At last after 20+ years of largely nil return the Academy may at last be producing premier league standard players. I suspect Moyes influence is bearing fruit as sorting the Academy was part of his brief to improve all aspects of the club. Another little known one was stopping Sullivan making a constant stream of public comments!
Sorry Smuggler love you fella but no respect goes to Moyes for the Academy
