West Ham’s Director of Football, Tim Steidten, is reportedly frustrated after being overruled on key decisions by the club’s leadership.
Steidten played a big role in the irons £150 million summer spending spree, but seemingly still remains unhappy at his level of influence. According to a report today in ‘The Sun‘, many of his preferred targets were overlooked.
One of Steidten’s frustrations is the club’s failure to secure a deal for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran. The report also mentions other players he’d like to have signed in what seems like yet another attempt to distance himself from various club decisions.
Tellingly the reports fails to mention West Ham backing him with the signings of Guilherme, Jean Clair Todibo and Niclas Fullkrug, preferring to focus on what Steidten didn’t get.
The newspaper also suggests that Steidten had submitted a list of potential candidates to replace David Moyes as manager. His recommendations included the highly impressive Fabian Hürzeler but also puzzlingly Paulo Fonseca amongst others.
The article does go on to say that there is no tension between Steidten and Julen Lopetegui, which it points out was the case with David Moyes.
This is the third story of this nature to surface in the past two weeks, each from different sources. One can only wonder if this latest report was drafted before the Hammers’ convincing 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town.

Nuff said.
Oh do go away you horrible little man.
Reality check , Steidten only gets to research and suggest players and managers . Both Sullivan and Lopetegui have veto powers . Steidten must target players suitable for Lopetegui’s system and must abide by Sullivan’s financial restrictions …..End of story .
If this is supposed to be a sport site, the scum should never get a reference or it’s stories acknowledged, whatever they report.
If Tim doesn’t like it then the easiest way out is to give his salary back to his employers and explore new challenges elsewhere.

On the basis we spent our budget and all on Tim’s choices (bar Kilman perhaps?) I’m not sure what anyone expects with a longer ‘must have’ list. Duran would’ve cost another £15m than Fullkrug so who would we have forsaken to make that happen?……we’ve already started eating into next season’s budget with Tobido, so one way or another the newspaper article is a load of (politely put) tosh
Usual rubbish from the sun stirring it up.
Always kicking people when they’re down cowards in my opinion.
If people want to believe it more fool them
Remember the joy we felt when Tevez and Mascherino turned-up – how did that turn out – the same for Payet and now Tim Steidten and Co, so make the most if it they won’t be here next July. West Ham is forever cursed with atrocious, greedy no-nothing owners. Whatever that evil gypsy did at Upton Park, boy was she powerful!
Theway I see it , Steidten shouldn’t be over ruled on ANY decisions at all regarding coach and playing staff , that’s supposed to be his job.
The board give him a budget, he makes the decisions. If it works out, take the credit, if not , the flak.
We seem to have (once again ) gone the director of football route without implementing it properly, simply because Sullivan cannot help himself from meddling in operations. I can guarantee if Tim leaves or is scapegoat fired, he will not be replaced, and once again Sullivan and his agent mates will be making all the decisions again.
The man is a dinosaur and needs to sell up and leave.
Because the Sun always tells the truth…not
It was only ten days ago we were being told that Todibo was too weak for premier league football. Much of this stuff is complete twaddle…
THe Sun is the source for this crap, please stop repeating this bullshit!
Yes I agree .It’s not for nothing that the paper is known as the “Wapping Lier”
On the managers, Steidten can provide any list of names he wants, Sullivan is only interested in unemployed managers that have PL experience. ‘Safe pair of hands’ and free.
We will never make a progressive managerial appointment as long as he is the owner.
